We stayed here for our wedding night, and while parts of the property are well thought out, the overall experience didn’t meet expectations for the price and rating. Positives first: the hotel is beautiful and tastefully designed. The spa is a highlight—well kept and run by a warm, professional attendant. The saltwater pool is nicely maintained and a thoughtful touch. However, service overall lacked consistency and polish. A number of small missteps throughout our stay accumulated into an experience that didn’t meet 5-star standards. At the pool—during a heatwave—we couldn't get service for nearly 2 hours. No one was staffing the bar, though it was stocked and locked with a tick chain—odd, especially since there’s an honesty bar inside. I tried calling reception, bar, room service—no one picked up. It felt like I was filling in for missing staff. Eventually someone came and we could finally order drinks. At breakfast, I had a frustrating exchange. I asked for sliced bread or a knife to slice the rolls, and the server replied defensively, saying I should slice the bread at my table and return to toast it—but I only had a butter knife… Breakfast overall didn’t meet expectations. Ingredients were good, but offerings were limited. One morning, there were no eggs at all on the buffet. Hot items were available on request (for sustainability), but with just one staff member, service was slow and inaccurate. Waiting 15 min for coffee or wrong egg orders isn’t aligned with luxury standards. By contrast, breakfast at Solar de Vilar Seco—where we stayed just before—was luxurious and abundant, with premium cheeses, international options, and stunning variety. Chef Gilbert deserves praise. Our room was fine by 5-star basics but felt small and underwhelming for the price and the setting (a former royal manor). Again comparing with Solar de Vilar Seco: rooms there were bigger, airier, and restored with original 18th-century details, creating a far more luxurious feel. There were also some odd quirks. Guests have to ring a bell and explain themselves multiple times—even to re-enter from the garden or spa. I get the intent is security, but the execution felt intrusive and didn’t match the relaxed vibe expected in a place like this. The service tone, while not rude, felt more guarded than warm. Staff rarely smiled, and basic interactions—from front desk to breakfast to housekeeping—lacked the ease and attentiveness that define luxury hospitality. Service should anticipate needs, not react to them—and here it often felt reactive and flat. Finally, a personal note: we mentioned this was our wedding night on our booking, a detail many hotels mark with a small gesture. I’ve had handwritten notes, a treat, a spa perk, even upgrades—all of which make a guest feel seen. In this case, nothing. I mentioned it again at check-in—it was brushed off. This isn’t about freebies; it’s about feeling that the hotel values your special moment. That was completely missing.

Très belle propriété, location & personnel

Pleasant stay in this hotel. It is designed in a quite modern and stylish way coming with good amenities. Breakfast was sufficient for me (as I’m usually not a big breakfast eater). All the staffs were helpful and friendly. Only the con is that I encountered their argument scenes twice in a row, in a same day… you don’t want to see or hear loud arguments by employees first in the morning at breakfast, 7am! Please be more mindful of the guest and do not show it. I didn’t feel good about it, so I cannot give full 5 stars, otherwise I liked the stay and would love to come back.

Amazing location if you're looking to relax. You're surrounded by peace, quiet and amazing views of the Douro Valleys. The pool area is great in a warm and sunny day and we enjoyed walking around the property in between the vines and the apple trees (the girls found it incredible to taste fruit after picking it up themselves). Breakfast is decent (the coffee was particularly good) although I would encourage a broader offering (there were no lactose free choices, for instance). Overall, it was a very good experience and I would happily go back.

Nous avons passé trois nuits dans cet hôtel et avons beaucoup apprécié notre séjour. Le personnel de la réception était très sympathique et notre chambre était propre et confortable, avec vue sur le parc. Le bar de l'hôtel était également très agréable ; j'ai bu le meilleur Irish Coffee ! Nous n'avons pas dîné au restaurant, mais nous y avons pris notre petit-déjeuner tous les matins ; le choix était très large. L'hôtel est très bien situé, et Viseu est également une ville très agréable.

Beatiful house with nice comfortable rooms, a super nice living room for spending the evening . Good breakfast and a nice, clean pool. Big garden with grapes and olive trees, kiwi and qrapes on top of the parking lot. Enough parking space. Definitely worth a visit during your douro valley tour. Some nice restaurants to visit in the small towns nearby. Tasty wine from own production and very friendly owners

L'hôtel est magnifique, situé dans leur propre vignoble. Vous pouvez également participer à leur propre visite des vins et dégustation de vins. Le petit-déjeuner et le dîner au restaurant sont de grande qualité. Le petit déjeuner est inclus dans le prix et le dîner n'est pas cher. Notre groupe de 6 personnes a commandé le menu avec accords mets-vins et nous étions presque pleins. Deux d'entre nous vivaient dans un grand tonneau de vin, ce qui était amusant mais un peu petit (surtout après avoir vu les chambres des autres contrastées), et il y avait une courte marche pour revenir au bâtiment de l'hôtel, donc si ce n'est pas recommandé pour les enfants ou les personnes âgées.

Очень хороший отель ! Вид просто супер, сервис супер! Минусы: -очень невкусный кофе -хотелось бы чуть более разнообразное меню на завтрак -между спальней и туалетом прозрачная перегородка!!! Она полностью просвечивается и видно всё что в туалете !

Foi uma agradável experiência. Adoramos o hotel , não é novo, mas as instalações são boas e a zona da piscina é muito agradável e a vista simplesmente deslumbrante .  O staff é super cordial e prestável e atencioso . Tínhamos pequeno-almoço incluído e é bastante  bom Acabamos por jantar os dias de estadia, e foi uma agradável experiência.  Vale a pena conhecer e voltar .

hôtel très agréable et très bon accueil. Vieux style mais très spécial. Le dîner était un peu décevant mais le petit déjeuner était excellent. Nous vous recommandons de rester ici car il a une atmosphère très spéciale et mérite l'expérience. Beau terrain et jardins à voir et à marcher
