I booked this B&B because the price looked reasonable for York. But the night before my arrival, I happened to check again and saw the rate had dropped significantly—cheaper than what I’d paid. I called to see if I could cancel and rebook at the new price, but the answer was firm: no changes, no refunds, because I’d already locked in a “non-modifiable” reservation. So I swallowed it and told myself, at least it’s budget-friendly. That goodwill lasted until 2 a.m. The guy in the bunk below me started snoring—not the gentle kind, but a deep, guttural roar that vibrated through the metal frame and straight into my skull. I lay there, exhausted, trying earplugs, pillows, even phone noises—nothing cut through it. The snoring went on for hours; I counted the ceiling cracks until dawn. By morning I was a zombie, and all I could think was: if only I hadn’t been stuck with that no-rebook rule, I could have chosen a quieter room elsewhere. Saving £20 wasn’t worth losing a full day of sightseeing in York. This place is fine for heavy sleepers, but if you’re light-sensitive like me, please pay the extra and get a private room—or at least bring military-grade earplugs. I’m not angry, just tired and honest. Sleep is precious, and no discount can buy it back.

We booked the family room as visiting friends in the village. Well the room was more like a an apartment, with a separate room with two single beds for the kids. Lovely decor and nice bedding. The rooms were immaculate and fitted out to a high standard. Charming views of the river. We had a lovely evening meal downstairs. If you try the speciality Parmo, be warned that a whole one is definitely one for those with a big appetite. The location is great with an easy walk to local shops and centre of the village. The continental breakfast was also very generous and set us up for the day. In summary, we were really impressed with the rooms and would definitely book again for our next visit and would highly recommend it. Thank you to all the team at The Buck.

Ce petit bijou d'un endroit. Pour la première fois visite, voyager seul pour affaires. La chambre est très propre, chaude et confortable avec beaucoup de serviettes et de culottes. La salle de bain était sans spot, belle toilette complimentaire. Le lit confortable, j'avais un bon sommeil une fois que je suis sorti, j'aurais pu entendre d'autres invités sur le corridor, mais je pense que j'étais plus tôt en séjour que la moyenne du dimanche soir (temps de travail lundi!) Le petit déjeuner était de bonne qualité, une sélection équitable de choix chauds et froids, beaucoup de fruits frais à la disposition également.

We stayed here for 3 nights whilst visiting the local area. The room was very spacious and comfortable, with lovely facilities. Excellent breakfast and service. Would recommend to others and will use again.

We loved staying in this little hotel, a large and clean room with comfy bed and pillows, spotlessly clean and well stocked coffee and tea tray. As we stayed on Friday, the carvery was served and the food was good (the beef and roasted carrots was excellent) and plentiful with the price you can't beat. Excellent value for money, the same applies for drinks. Welcoming staff and free parking. Despite being positioned by the road , we had a peaceful night , no outside noise. We will stay again here as all together, it was a good hotel to stay in and I recommend it to others , for visits of Ripon, Fountains Abbey, Dales...

The location is perfect. Alternative parking was offered if needed, which it was not as we parked in the front of The George. The room was spacious (we were in number 10) with a sitting area and desk for those who require to do work ... the bed was very comfortable. The restaurant was top notch ... we ordered Steak and Ale Pie, which was delicious and Fish and Chips (asked for them to leave off the fresh/mushy peas) ... the fish was enormous, fresh and very tasty ... the fries/chips were homemade. All in all, we would highly recommend The George.

Reasonable rate for a room over the Easter bank holidays in a good location for the train station and to get food. Generally clean comfortable room and bed. Would stay again.

Beautifully appointed room, incredibly quiet until the kitchen fans went on in the morning, but not an issue. The bathroom was exceptionally clean with everything needed for a long bath if required. The amenities within the room were fabulous. An incredibly comfortable bed with plenty of wardrobe space if needed. The only let down was a repair made to the window had left a paint 'scar' that needed repainting. The pub was very olde wordly and fabulous.
