Schlosshotel Münchhausen

In my humble opinion, the Schlosshotel Munchhausen is the finest 5 star Schloss hotel in Germany. Everything here is just perfect and Exquisite. From the beautiful rooms and suites in the castle, the superb grounds where you can stroll each day and to the food served at breakfast and in either the Schlosskeller, the Michelin starred restaurant or the Schwöbber bar. My wife and I have been fortunate enough to stay at some very fine 5 star hotels both in the U.K, the USA and in Europe since retirement and no where has surpassed this magical place. We have been guests here many times now. Also add in the brilliant and charming folk who work here and clearly love the old place. So,if you can, give yourself a treat and stay here a a guest for a few days. I promise you that you won't regret it.

There are definitely a number of pro's and cons about the hotel. We had booked for 2 nights with 2 golf tee times included at Lippische Golf and Bad Pyrmont, and 2 dinners in the Michelin restaurant. First thing that went wrong was I didn't get it fixed through reception to get the golf tee times. I think I wrote at least 3 times. At the end I wrote to one of my connections at LinkedIn who works at the hotel, and I must admit, then it was quickly fixed. But that should not happen like this. At arrival the man responsible for the luggage did with us a mini tour, and showed the bar, restaurant and breakfast. Not often I have seen this service and I liked it a lot. The room was spacious and clean, very nice and comfortable. The real dissapointment was the diner in the Michelin star restaurant. Apparently they find it highly unusual that you book that restaurant twice in a row, and the menu was 2 days the same for us. We stayed in several other hotels with Michelin star restaurants this year, and there the menu was completely different second day, as they had plenty of guests that booked dinner more than once. Maybe at Schloss Munchhausen guests only book once, because of the price. For us 2 it was more than 600 EUR per day, that is the most I ever paid in this kind of restaurant, and way too much. Another thing about the restaurant is that I mentioned one of us had a garlic allergy. At arrival at hotel we mentioned that again, and they said they already knew about this and there was no problem. However in the restaurant the first day nobody knew about it when we mentioned it again. For a place with these kind of prices that is close to unforgivable. I wasn't excepting too much from golf as greenfees were 40 EUR at Lippischer and 49 at Bad Pyrmont, but that exceeding my expectations. You get about 20 EUR reduction from the hotel, and both were enjoyable. On day 2 we did a tour around the Baron Von Muchhausen course just next to the hotel, and I was happy we did not play that, the stroke index 1 and 2 holes are nearly unplayable.

Great looking place just a shame they were rigging up a festival gig for a few days so stage disco etc being set up in car park in front of building so really ruined that wow factor when you arrived! Also no tea/coffee facilities in room,very weird! Butt to food first class and staff very friendly

What more can we say about this most perfect of places. We travel from the U.K. twice a year and discovered the Schloss 4 years ago. Returned last week after another wonderful 3 week tour of Deutschland. However, we deliberately left the very best to last and spent our final 10 days here. If anyone wants to experience a truly 5 star hotel where everything is absolutely perfect, then we would advise you to treat yourself and stay here . The rooms and suites in the Castle are exquisite, the food in the Bar and Sclosskeller is delicious and beatifully served and the folks who work here are extremely kind and professional. We have said before that since retirement we have been fortunate to have been guests of some very fine 5 star hotels in the U.K. the USA and Europe. However, in our opinion none have surpassed this wonderful and evocative place. Not only is the Schloss and the gardens and grounds superb but it is situated in the most finest of lands. Surrounded by pristine forests and woods and farmland. So, thankyou again our dear Schlosshotel Munchhausen

After being fortunate to now be retired and travelled a bit in the last few years, staying in nice hotels in both the U.K. Europe and the States, my wife and I have come to the conclusion that the Schloss is the most wonderful of all places and our particular favourite. This was our third stay here after returning to our home in the U.K. We cannot think of a single thing that wasn't just perfect and exquisite. Kind and helpful staff, beautiful and comfortable room up in the Schloss, superb dinners either in the Schlosskellar or the Bar....and the breakfasts !!! Let me just write a bit about the breakfasts served here. You can choose to have breakfasts in any number of beautifully appointed and sunlit rooms overlooking the lovely grounds and gardens. And the choice of fayre offered is breathtaking. Breads, cheeses, cold meats and fish, juices and champagne, cereals and fruit.....before going on to eggs cooked anyway you wish with bacon, sausage etc. Nothing is too much trouble for any of the wonderful staff here. What a wonderful way to start the day before going for a stroll in the beautiful grounds. This is now our " go to " place and we will return every year.....maybe even twice a year.

We have just returned home to the U.K. after a 2 week touring holiday to Deutschland in our car. This was our second stay at the Schloss and for many wonderful reasons, this exquisite place will call us back and back again now. Their is a sense of history and tradition here. When you turn into the magnificent courtyard, you do feel rather special. We spent 6 nights here and could have spent many more as we were so comfortable and utterly entranced. After a superb breakfast each morning served in a lovely dining room by kind and charming folk, my wife and I always " did a turn " .....an English expression !.....in the lovely grounds and sat by the blossoming trees in peace and contentment. Our room in the Castle was lovely and we slept well in utter peace and quiet. We never heard another sound, either from outside in the grounds or from other guests. The Schloss is set in magnificent hills with views of farmland and forests. We drove out on some days to tour the countryside and travel the quiet roads of the Weserbergland. And finally the food. We dined either in the Bar or the Cellar Restaurant each evening and the menu and the service was first class. So, we thankyou dear Schlosshotel Muenchhausen for making our stay so memorable and we are already planning our dates to return in October.
