I was very disappointed in my stay at Club Med. The service was sub-par and not at all what I expected from this brand. The hotel is geared almost entirely towards families with young kids, so don’t expect a relaxing or reinvigorating stay (unless you’re ok with being woken up at 7 by loud kids, as the soundproofing in the rooms is nonexistent). We arrived at the hotel before our room was ready, and the receptionist, who spoke no English and seemed annoyed that I didn’t speak Chinese, simply dismissed us and said to come back later. I understand that we arrived before check-in time, but he made no attempt to make us feel comfortable or welcome. The room itself was not at all impressive. The furnishings felt old and the bed was oddly small. There were no phone charging cables or any modern appliances. The dining area was crowded with families, especially at breakfast. The food itself was adequate but did not make up for other negative aspects of the experience. I was shocked that we were not asked to wear our masks at the buffet, unlike at other resorts where I have stayed. Due to the weather, we did not have a chance to try any of the activities in the resort, but it was crowded enough that I did not feel particularly motivated to join. Overall, this hotel does not deserve its seemingly high rating and, given the price/performance ratio, I would rank it as one of my worst hotel experiences in China. The grounds were picturesque in places (apart from the industrial-looking lake) but you should be able to find plenty of pictureque scenery elsewhere in Anji.
