Un hôtel merveilleux, un accueil qui devrait être suivi par beaucoup d´hôtels de Suisse, un personnel souriant et toujours disponible,enfin, un restaurant italien de grande classe. Pour la chambre, nous avons choisi avec balcon, une toute bonne idée, tranquilité et repos après une journée de balade et découvertes ! Pour nous, cela a été une découverte de tout premier ordre et ,sûr, on y retournera ! Merci à tous et avec un petit plus pour messieurs Matjaz pour son accueil et son français impeccable et Stefano pour son service de classe, avec qui nous avons pu échanger quelques mots en italien ! Cet hôtel familial est idéalement situé en plein centre dans une belle maison historique au début de la rue piétonne principale facile d’accès. Il est à 5mn à pied de la gare et offre plusieurs places de parking extérieures équipées pour les e-véhicules. Les chambres sont très agréables, leur surface moyenne correspond à ce type de bâtiment ancien dont les chambres ne sont jamais très grandes. La décoration est simple, typique et charmante, mais bien entretenue et mise au goût du jour. Salle de bain ou de douche moderne. Les chambres à l’arrière sur la rue piétonne sont très calmes. Certaines chambres donnent sur une route assez fréquentées la journée. Les cloches de l’église sonnent régulièrement et apportent un charme très sonore. La propreté est irréprochable et le petit déjeuner de qualité avec des produits locaux. Le plus indéniable atout réside dans le formidable accueil réservé aux visiteurs. Tant le patron que tous les personnels sont disponibles et toujours souriants. L’accueil est largement au dessus de la moyenne des hôtels de la ville, multilingue tant dans les échanges écrits qu’à l’oral, disponibles pour organiser vos excursions et vous conseiller. Compréhensifs pour vos demandes de dernières minutes, le patron connaît chaque randonnée et n’économise pas son temps pour vous aider à réussir votre séjour et à découvrir son canton. Un exemple de la tradition hôtelière suisse dans sa grande qualité qui se perd parfois ailleurs. Dès 3 nuits, l’hôtel offre un carte de séjour qui vous donne plein d’avantages et la nuit supplémentaire est vite rentabilisée. Musées (qui sont nombreux à deux pas) gratuits, remontées mécaniques, etc. Il y a beaucoup plus de choses à faire à Appenzell et dans sa région que nous l’imaginions et nous avons donc prolongé notre séjour. Le restaurant italien de l’hôtel mérite une remarque particulière. Il est excellent et les prix pratiqués sont vraiment attractifs. Tout est bon. L’hôtel offre aussi un restaurant avec des mets au fromage plus typiques. Une adresse à recommander sans restriction où nous nous promettons de revenir en été pour profiter d’une des deux jolies junior suites à prix doux. Le petit cadeau de départ pour la route est aussi appréciable. Belle adresse et belles personnes !

Our room was lovely, as is the hotel generally. It’s an older historic building that is clean and well appointed. Staff were very friendly and accommodating, and it is a short walk to most things in town. There is a good restaurant on the premises, and attention to the guest is first-rate. I would definitely stay here again.

It doesn't go any better. I went for a week to Adlerhotel for hiking the Säntis National Park. 5 minutes away from the station, 5 to 10 minutes away from every major place (square, supermarket, brewery). Very friendly and extremely polite desk staff. Swiss quality was indeed honored when it came to cleanliness. The breakfast was really nice too. When coming back again to Appenzell, I do not need to choose or look for any other place.

This charming hotel is located in the heart of this beautiful village. Everything my wife and I needed and wanted was within walking distance of the front door. We travelled with a Swiss rail pass and it was helpful that this hotel was only a short walk from the station. The staff was very friendly and helpful and we were greeted as though we were family when we arrived. We would definitely stay here again if we are blessed to visit Switzerland in the future.

Old, extremely well kept small hotel (20 rooms) in small town of Appenzell. About a 10-12 minute walk from rail station. Very close to the old part of town with several restaurants and stores. Across street from a beautiful river. Hotel has a free breakfast with cheeses, bread, juice, coffee, tea, meats and eggs. There is a wonderful looking patio to use outside of the breakfast area,(plus the outdoor seating in front) weather permitting. There is also an Italian restaurant in the hotel that serves lunch and dinner at a reasonable price. Food was good. Hotel owner (Matthew) and staff could not have been nicer. Our room was modern, clean, with a very good mattress and a small balcony. Our room had a frig. Don't remember if there was a microwave. Hotel has lots of maps for wherever you choose to go within the Appenzell Canton (district?). Ask for the Appenzell card if they forget to give it to you. Free transportation within the canton, free ride on at least 2 of the cable cars, free admission to the downstairs part of the town aquatic center (pool and hot tub). We were there for 4 nights. This was a good choice for us.

We had the Broger Suite, first floor above the lobby, a HUGE almost apartment. The sitting room had four big windows and views out two sides (it is a corner room) and some of the original wood walls from the 1600s. Big bathroom, shelf space, good shower, hairdryer and soap provided. It was a nice traditional room in an old building. Easy to get to from the train station (5 minutes walk), excellent location, easy walking distance to everything. Lots of plugs, good WiFi, refrigerator, coffee maker, AC. If you stay three days or more you get the Appenzeller card with great values and free trains to and from Appenzell (this savings alone more than paid for one night's accomodation). Super-Friendly hosts, willing to help. Laundry available for extra charge. Great food in their Italian (!) restaurant. Seriously. Good fondue on Thursday nights (or was it Friday?) This is our second or third time here and We will stay again.

Given that Appenzell isn't the cheapest place in Switzerland, we did appreciate our lovely room at this hotel. Room size was excellent and space was enhanced by the well thought-out and beautiful custom wood dresser, shelves, suitcase rack and headboard (all made locally). Bathroom was moderate size but again seemed more spacious by the layout so two people could usually be in there at a time. This hotel has been family-run by decades, so Management has perfected hotel/room maintenance and cordially dealing with customers. BTW, stay three nights and you get a valuable unlimited LOCAL-AREA transportation card. The hotel is less than a 10-minute easy walk from the train station. We also had dinner in their "Little Italy" restaurant where the food was excellent and the prices entirely reasonable. We would stay and eat here again in a heartbeat! It's a great base to explore the area from and listen to the cowbells - that seem to be ringing from every direction when you are just outside of town!

We had the briefest of overnight stops here and I wish it had been longer. The hotel is in the middle of historic Appenzell, our room was large, comfortable and well appointed, and breakfast was fantastic with Appenzell butter and yoghurt thrown in. The hotel's EV charger was in use when we arrived very late at night but we were able to access one behind the bank at the top of town, so happy days!!! The standout feature, however, was Mathias the manager, who left us a welcome note and was so warm and welcoming in the morning. He also helped us design our one day in the region, a beautiful alpine walk that suited us very well. This is definitely a good place to stay if you want to enhance your experience in the region.
