I have been visiting Champneys Springs for about 21 years. But haven’t been for about 5 years. My Mum & I visited for a mid week break to celebrate her birthday. On check-in, the building looked tired & dated. No major redecoration has happened. The furniture seemed to be a miss match from room to room, which also looked tired & dated. Check-in was ok and we were shown to our room. The bedroom comfortable, but the bathroom was dated, the shower constantly dropped & not fantastically clean. Chipped bedroom chairs & stained carpet 😔 The restaurant was crowded & very very hot. No accommodation had been made recent increase in temperature, I understand the weather is extreme at the mo, but the no a/c anywhere?? We walked out after the main course at dinner time, as the heat was unbearable. The treatments were excellent, both Mum & I had massages & facials, which we both throughly enjoyed. Food Breakfast was poor, the selection & quality was no better than a poor staff canteen. Lunch was very good, but dinner was average. Drinks selection very good & well priced. On the whole, we felt Champneys has lost its “special spark” and the excitement of going to a luxury retreat was no longer there. The staff seems to lack enthusiasm and general finesse to what we have experienced previously. The lady on the gym desk was really rude & unhelpful. We wouldn’t return, which is a shame. But so much competition has emerged over the last 20 years... We will try other spas in the future. Sorry Champs.. 😏
