The hotel is situated in a great position close to (but not too close!) the town centre. As we turned into the drive we found ample parking, and as we approached the front door, the door was opened for us, which was very welcome as it was pouring with rain. Check-in was friendly, quick and efficient and we were taken up to our room. Room 16 is a lovely large room with dual aspect, and was light and bright, and spotlessly clean. The large ensuite had a bath and separate shower and again was spotlessly clean. Despite the house being very old the room was modern and tastefully decorated and even had USB ports by the bed. We were aware in advance that dinner wasn't available on site so we had already made other plans, and as there are many different options for eating in the town within walking distance, it was easy to find something we liked. We had an excellent night's sleep on a very comfortable super king bed - it was totally quiet, we didn't hear a sound, which was a surprise given that our first night was a Saturday so we were expecting some noise. On Sunday morning we went to breakfast, and a member of staff was there to show us to the breakfast room. Breakfast was excellent - I have gluten and dairy allergies, and the staff had already put soya milk on the table for my coffee. We had very nice cooked breakfasts and it was obvious that nothing was too much trouble. All the staff we met throughout our stay were friendly, attentive, and helpful and we were thoroughly impressed with every one of them. Before checking out we came to the conclusion that the hotel rooms could be underpriced. It was certainly cheaper than other hotels I looked at locally before I booked, and has a nicer, more homely atmosphere than most of the hotel chains (as you'd expect for a family-run hotel) which I was happy to pay a little more for. I would certainly have expected to pay more for a room as nice as the one we had, which was justifiably advertised as a junior suite. Pauline and her small team should be congratulated on their professionalism, and the amount of effort they put in to ensuring their guests get the best possible service. Thank you so much, Pauline, I hope we can stay at Sherbourne again soon.
