We arrived at the hotel at around 6pm. This was booked as a 2 night stay in a 3 week tour of Nova Scotia. Within 30 seconds of arriving at the front desk, we were asked to pay for our stay. We tried to explain we had pre paid via our travel company in the uk and they had booked via a Canadian agent. This system is standard for many UK booked holidays. This was met with head shaking, head in hands and s-l-o-w-l-y telling us we didn’t understand that no- one could pre pay and they had not received our money. The receptionist then waived an alleged void credit card receipt to prove the Canadian agent had not paid. As no one was allowed to pay in advance, this was baffling. It was also incredibly rude. We felt we had no option but to pay. We asked to see the room. Of course we had been allocate the room I specifically said I did not want: room 6. We were then told if we didn’t like it, we could find somewhere else. In 50 plus years of travel, no one has ever said this to me before. Room 6 doesn’t look like the web site picture - it had been stripped out. The window is above the kitchen extract fan. It’s smelly. It’s noisy. You cannot open the window. Therefore the air conditioning is the only option. It’s very noisy. No sleep! The view? You can see a tree and a bit of the buildings opposite. I gather other rooms have balconies and sea views. Not room 6. It’s awful. We did have a good breakfast with a friendly waitress but the other lady was a rude nightmare. For clarity - we had prepaid and if there was an issue, did we deserve this? We were guests. We were lucky that our next hotel had a room available for our second night. We left. We have been fully refunded with compensation. Unless you are desperate, AVOID.
