Hotel la Rocca Resort & Spa

This hotel is no longer in business. We were booked to stay from June 21 to June 30 2025. The hotel took a $3,500 deposit in January 2025. Without any notice at all to us, the hotel ceased responding to emails and ceased answering the telephone. If we had not chosen to book a transfer through La Rocca, we would not have known the hotel had closed. We would have arrive to a locked, overgrown deserted hotel in the midst of high season. They have not refunded the money nor do they reply to requests. We drove to the property while in Sardinia and I can confirm the hotel is absolutely closed down. I am sure we are not the only guests whose deposits and in some cases entire payments have been stolen.

We are booked to stay in June 2025. The hotel’s Nikki g service has taken a $4000 Aud deposit. The hotel is not responding to any emails and no one is answering the phone. Luckily we were trying to arrange an airport transfer and did not just arrive at the hotel. We have cancelled on the booking site but no confirmation of refund. The hotel website is no longer functional and there are no further bookings at anytime. We have had no notice of any closure or inability to facilitate our booking. Nothing! Something is very wrong at La Rocca.

We had a lovely holiday but … PROS: Stunning scented gardens full of Bougainvillea , Hydrangeas, Olive and Carob trees, Stephanotis, Hibiscus, Roses etc. Beautifully appointed twin room with an adjoining sofa bed space (with balcony) for children. Quality white bed linen. Salvatore Ferragamo toiletries, everything spotless. Towels changed twice a day, beds turned back in the evenings. Warm welcome from reception, porterage, well trained attentive restaurant staff, English spoken, extensive menu, delicious breakfast choices, lovely pool area with Olive trees for shade. Fabulous spa facilities & beauty therapies. Massage €160 was wonderful. Beautiful beach 5 mins away via Mercedes people carrier on request. Very pretty local coastal town 15 mins via complimentary people carrier on request. CONS: 40 minutes drive from airport. Taxi €90. (We missed our flight due to MWay closure so no transfer available 2 days later.) Lots of garden/pool deck steps with no handrails at all. Trip hazards if you are mobility compromised. Steps down into pool can be tricky/slippery to navigate in/out without a handrail. If you fall, (as I did) no visit/attention from a recognised First Aider or manager. Only one bin in bathroom so no bin near coffee facility or in room, gets tedious. Ask for a kettle/tea sachets & fresh milk. No “do not disturb/service this room” hangers for doors so maids don’t know if you are in/out/resting. Maids did come early afternoon which can be inconvenient if you want to rest. No feminine hygiene bags in bathroom. No pool umbrellas for shade when trees are not enough to shield you. No UK TV to keep up with international news. Very very expensive but beautiful beach restaurant.

Alberto and his staff at La Volte restaurant and pool bar within the hotel provide exceptional service and exceptional food, and cannot be faulted. However, this should not be a 5 star hotel. Having booked with TUI, where the website states dining at the beach restaurant is included within their half board, we were astounded to discover it was not when we received a bill from the restaurant for over £800. TUI admitted their fault, and Valentina on reception informed us that due to the mistake, we would not be charged for the meal, and we could visit the beach restaurant each night until the matter was resolved. We returned once more to the beach restaurant. On checking out, both meals were on the bill. Imra at reception refused to acknowledge this nor call a manager so that the matter could be resolved. Imra insulted our intelligence stating that we might have forgotten we were told that we could not eat at the beach restaurant and that we were told that we could not eat certain items on the menu, this was not true. Whilst reception manager Valentina was helpful, the lack of communication between the hotel staff caused us considerable distress. Alongside this, refurbishments to the hotel villa were being carried out causing considerable noise from the pneumatic drill being used whilst a wall was rendered. It is neither on the TUI or hotel website that construction works would be carried out during our stay. We informed Imra and the hotel manager, another Valentina, that the noise had woken our children, but Imra’s answer to this was that it was gardening work and if it bothered us to shut our door! Requests for toilet roll- a basic necessity- were acknowledged but not provided. In short, this was an extremely stressful holiday at what is advertised to be a 5 star hotel.

Hotel La Rocca is a quiet hotel with good ammenities set just outside Baja Sardinia. The hotel is very well appointed, with spacious clean rooms, and excellent beds (probably among the best we have ever experienced). There are three dinner options - one at their beach club, one at the hotel and a light meal/pizza option by the pool (which I don’t think is mentioned on the website, but which was a lovely casual option for lunch and dinner). There are shuttles available on request to go to the beach club or Baja Sardinia. The other popular locations on the costa Esmeralda are all very close - we found a car helpful. Service was excellent, with all the staff going out of their way to make the experience great. We speak English as our first (and nearly only) language. As we were early in the season there were a number of new staff members who were still learning key phrases, but we are sure that they will be up to speed very quickly learning from the more experienced staff. We would recommend.

Our stay at La Rocca was fantastic, the staff were very knowledgeable about the local area and gave us some great recommendations (Valentina from their concierge team was very helpful throughout the stay). The location is very central and easy to get to Porto Cervo and surrounding beaches of Northern Sardinia.
