We stayed at three separate Premier Inns whilst doing the Trans-Pennine Trail and we agreed that the Barnsley one was the least appealing of all three. That's not to say it was bad - it wasn't - but it had some glaring issues. The Cons: * The lift was out from the car park. The hotel made some mumbling that it's owned by other people so they can't control it but how's that going to help elderly or disabled people? Unacceptable. And the stairs from the car park are your usual sketchy variety. They make fun echoes though. Just check before you come to see if they've fixed it. If they haven't, maybe look at another Premier Inn... * The staff were quite brusque overall. That's OK, they don't need to be your friends or anything but none of them were warm or welcoming - reception or dining staff. * For Trans-Penniners only, it's quite far off the trail to get to depending on which way you're coming. Wombwell might be a better shout. The Pros: * Cyclist friendly, allowing bikes in rooms. * Breakfast was fine. * The beds were very comfortable. We all thought the bathrooms were pretty good. * Reasonably priced for what it is. * The inside lifts are quite big and good for bikes! * Centrally Barnsley based - superb location if Barnsley is your destination. So all in all, a lot of pluses but the car park lift being out caused so much disruption for us and others, it really impacted it. If the staff seemed apologetic about it, that's something. But they weren't. That's a shame as I think those things let down what would have been a superb experience!
