Lord Crewe Arms Blanchland

Excellent hotel, friendly staff, great menu choice in the restaurant, plenty of parking plus a hearty cooked breakfast. Ideal base for walkers, cyclists etc but we used this hotel as a base for National Trust and English Heritage visits. Our room was in the Angel across the square, clean, tidy nothing extra needed (enjoyed the Fudge though!)

We have stayed at this lovely hotel many times over 15 years. Its stunning location, beautiful rooms and friendly staff make staying here a joy. However, this time, we felt disappointed in the food. Yesterday evening, 4 of us ate at the restaurant and were disappointed at the meaness of the chef. The portions were almost child like, requiring one starter to be sent back and chips (3 portions costing £18) to be ordered as we were clearly all going to be hungry if we didn't. This has always been a walkers' hotel, and walkers get hungry! My cheese plate came with 2 reasonable portions of cheese but just 4 tiny hexaginal buscuits! At breakfast, we arrived at just after 9 am and 9:20. The pastries had all gone, and the yoghurt was almost all gone. We asked for pastries but were told they would be 20 mins. We ordered our main breakfasts, but again, the portions seemed mean, and the kippers were infact just one kipper. The toast also arrived 10 mins after the main breakfast was served! The pastries did arrive, but way after, we would have liked them. This is not what we have come to expect from this hotel when food prices are relatively high. Come on Lord Crew Arms. Stop being so mean!!! As always, the staff, rooms and hotel facilities were spot on.

Stayed there for a night last weekend and we really enjoyed the whole experience. Set in the lovely tranquil village of Blanchland set in an old priory the hotel has a bar set in the old stone store with access to a large beer garden with views of the hills. The rooms are set around the outside and are not large but well appointed be very comfortable. With a super king size bed which was assured of a nice sleep. The bathroom in our room had a full bath with overhead shower. The meals in the restaurant were of really good quality for both dinner and breakfast. The staff were efficient and friendly. We left having enjoyed our stay and more than happy to stay again in the future.

My husband and I stayed for one night in April 2025, following a long hike on the moors we enjoyed a fantastic meal in the restaurant and a few drinks in the bar after. Great service, amazing food and well appointed and comfortable rooms. We had a fabulous stay and wished we could have stayed another night- we will be back!

We came for the Stargazing evening which was first rate. Stayed in the Thomas Forster room with excellent views over the gardens towards the hills . Gorgeous warm, welcoming room with lovely amenities and fabulous service throughout. Crypt Bar also not to be missed, well the whole place is not to be missed, best nights sleep in a long time. Five Stars and a bit more. And food in gates house was amazing !

Nice setting, lovely food. All food was cooked well. The wine was fantastic and the setting was great. A lovely place for a meal or just a drink at the bar. The service from the young staff could be more refined and slicker but I am sure this will be sorted in time.
