I only booked this hotel because it was close to where I needed to be the following morning. Normally I’d go with a Premier Inn because I know what to expect, but the (suspiciously glowing) reviews convinced me to give this independent hotel a try. Big mistake. After this experience, I’m very reluctant to ever stray from a chain hotel again. From the moment I arrived, things felt off. The hotel looked nothing like the photos—think 1980s, tired decor and an overall sense of neglect. The revolving doors were covered in greasy fingerprints, which turned out to be an accurate preview of what was to come. Check-in was cold and unwelcoming. The woman at reception acted like I was interrupting her doing nothing important. No greeting, no smile, no basic information about check-out or breakfast times. I had to go back later to ask. Not that it mattered—after reading more recent reviews that evening, we decided to skip breakfast altogether and found a lovely brunch place nearby. Our room was superficially clean but ultimately grim. Under the sink was a gaping hole full of cobwebs, the bathroom was mouldy, and the “shower” was just a miserable mixer tap. They claimed to have air conditioning, but there were no vents, and nothing turned on when I tried. With the weather being hot and stuffy, I ended up going to Asda just to buy a fan, along with proper handwash and toilet paper—since they only gave us half a roll and some cheap toiletries that looked like leftovers from a care home bathroom in the ‘70s. The pillows were flat as pancakes, there were no spares, and the bedding had some worrying stains. Needless to say, I barely slept. To top it off, someone in the room above us started stomping around at 2am for no apparent reason, which was both unsettling and bizarre—especially as I was staying with my young daughter. We felt uncomfortable and unsafe the entire time. Check-out was as miserable as check-in. Another grunt from reception and that was it. No "how was your stay?" or even a goodbye. This hotel might be cheap, but that’s no excuse for how far below basic standards it was. It felt like the fake positive reviews are drowning out the honest ones, which is exactly why I’m leaving this. Hopefully, it helps others avoid being duped. Stay well away from this place—it’s not worth saving a few quid for peace of mind, comfort, or basic cleanliness.
