Southern Palms Beach Club

Southern Palms has a rustic charm and is perfectly located on Dover Beach one of our favourite beaches on the island. We stayed in July 2025 and whilst we knew it was ‘out of season’ we were surprised with how quiet the hotel was - this wasn’t a bad thing. The rooms were clean and fitting with the rest of the decor, with plenty of bars and restaurants along the gap only a minutes walk away. We did feel that the staff were slow and disinterested. We received no information on check-in about the facilities or goings on for our ten night stay so missed out on certain things (Managers cocktail party/Teas & Coffees/Gym facilities etc). Ordering a drink from the bar seemed like an inconvenience for the staff and was fairly expensive.. especially the buffet. However, we enjoyed our stay - it was relaxing and we will definitely consider returning to Southern Palms. 4*

So here I am back in the UK after 14 days at the Southern Palms resort just off the Lawrence gap. Firstly, I’d like to say thank you to all the staff there for making my stay absolutely amazing, especially as this is my first trip to Barbados solo but my seventh trip in total. For travellers, I will always recommend an ocean view however from what I gather of other guests staying at the resort all the rooms are in very good order This was my second time at this resort and I think the main feature of the resort is the fact that it’s so spread out in some beautiful well-maintained grounds and again my heart off to all the maintenance and gardening teams to make it look so beautiful My package was room only so that gave me the flexibility of eating at a number of locations within the gap, but the meals I did have at the resort were very tasty and quite a wide variety of choice, particularly with the all day menu No doubt travellers would’ve noticed comments about the seaweed that turns up every now and again and when I arrived yes there was quite a bit on the shoreline and further up towards Dover Beach however as I’ve experienced over the years the beach and the sea has a habit of reclaiming itself and by the end of the holiday I was still able to go for a really nice swim. One thing I will say about the beaches in general, but especially at Southern Palms is the way that not only the visitors and the gas but everyone respects the beaches it’s quite astonishing really the amount of visitors the island does get and how well the beaches are kept in pristine condition even in the most locations. Coming from the UK it’s very frustrating seeing how the visitors to the seaside resort in the UK treat The beaches like rubbish dumps perhaps I could learn some lessons from Barbados. I did quite a bit of travelling around. I hide a car as I normally do this time. I’ve got a little GPS which really did help as most travellers will note the signposting is not very good but it’s still great fun driving around the island and it’s safe as well.. I used to drive-a-matic this time and their service was really good with the pick up and drop off at the hotel. I managed to get round most of the hotspots rascals fisherman’s pub bats rock Thunder Bay sharks hole and many many other places I think that’s the fun of exploring the island. You never know what’s round the corner the only disappointment was the caboose wasn’t open on the two times I passed there that just means I’ll have to come back to the island and try it again. I also did a day trip down to savvy on the bay, which was a great day out. It was $30.B and the bus picks you up and drop you off at a convenient time for yourselves. Will you get a lounger and an umbrella? The sea is absolutely stunning and the food trucks are absolutely amazing as well as the bar obviously.. they really do know how to look after you down there and it’s a highly recommended visit. Amazing time staff could not more accomadating Saw turtle command lay her eggs at 5 am from room. Clean , reasonably priced for food and drink 3 beers for£6. Met some lovely people would rate 100%

Excellent stay had a fantastic room upgrade to a junior suite Great service from all the team Really relaxed week and just what we needed A minute walk and we were on the beach Great little gym too Food was excellent standard and didn’t disappoint

Just returned from southern palms and wow what a fantastic hotel. I requested a room with a great view for a friend who hasn't been abroad for many years and celebrating a big birthday they provide us with a beach front room just steps from the beach couldn't have been any better, thank you so much for that. Staff all friendly from cleaners to security and all the others in between. Water is provided all day by the pool ,definitely needed . The beds and pillows are so comfortable and air con is fantastic. Had a welcome gift on arrival in our room which was a lovely touch along with tea coffee and juice in fridge wasn't expecting that but really appreciated it. Restaurant has a good selection of food from breakfast to evening meals and I thought it was very reasonably priced.plenty of sun loungers around and about and on the beach. If you have a lounger on the beach they give you a flag to wave if you want anything they bring it to you, brilliant. really Can't fault this hotel I will definitely be back. It's sat on dover beach which is my favourite.

This was our 1st holiday with our 9 month old baby so we booked something we wouldn't have previously gone with; a low key family ran 'functional' resort. On arrival I would have to agree with some of the comments about dated furniture/the tired look of some rooms. However, we settled into our room which was incredibly comfy, had plenty of storage and was kept really clean everyday. I have to say, it was perfect for us as a family. There were also nice touches such as a welcome drink in the room upon arrival. The pool area was nice and relaxing, however, some people did seem to be up with the birds to reserve sun beds (the pool openned at 6am). A few more sunbeds wouldn't go amiss, especially as the beds on the beach have no shade. We needed shade for the baby so on pool days we had to do the same as others. Service by the pool and in the bar was typically carribean; relaxed and at times slow, but always very friendly and warm. We ate here a few times. It was standard pool food. Entertainment was mainly in the evenings. Everything we saw was nice and enjoyable. Breakfast (we had it included) offered a wide variety of good quality food. The egg station was particularly good. Our child was able to try lots of new things. The staff were amazing with him. He had a lot of attention and interaction! On one morning I was unwell and was even sent a care package. We were unlucky with the sargassum on the beach. Some days were better than others. We used webcams to find clear beaches when Docer beach was bad. Overall if you can adjust to a slower pace of life this is a lovely place to be. We would definitely go back to the Southern Palms.
