"Stayed for 1 night due to outbound flight cancellation. Checking in was fast with very efficient from office staff. Was upgraded at no additional cost. I was impressed with the buffet breakfast Will definitely recommend others to stay at this hotel. Great location."
Ugwis Hotel and Suites
"We stayed at UG Wis Hotel during the Christmas holiday. We had two rooms in the hotel. We stayed in their apartment style rooms. The rooms had a living room area, good size bedroom, small kitchenette, and a bathroom and toilet. The living room has a refrigerator. We had mixed reviews for this hotel. For starter, the beds and mattress were extra, extra, extra firm, to the point that it was so hard to sleep on. It felt similar to lying on a piece of wood. We had back pains after two days of lying on those mattresses. The hot water from the shower was not constant. One minute the water is very hot, you try to turn it down and immediately it turns cold. Taking a shower took some time because you are trying to figure out the hot water situation and constantly adjusting so you dont burn yourself or end up with cold water for shower. The tap water from the sink in the bathroom and the kitchen did not look good. When you turn on the faucet, first thing that comes out is brown, dirty water and then evenly clean water comes out. Which told us the faucet and pipes were probably old and dirty. I would have expected the hotel staff to know that their pipes are old and dirty and provide their guests with plenty of bottled water in the room. We had to keep asking for bottled water. The phones in the room don't work, so if you need something from the staff, you have to walk all the way down to the reception. We were on the third floor so that was very tiring going up and down the stairs a few times a day, just to go ask for basic items. One of the rooms we had had mold in the bathroom. We tried to scrub the mold off the hard surfaces with detergent and water. On the positive side, the AC unit and refrigerator in one of the rooms worked great. The room stayed nice and cool every day, which is important especially in the hot Calabar weather. The refrigerator worked great, kept our water and juices nicely chilled. Believe me, you need that. We have also stayed at other hotels in Calabar where AC did not work and refrigerator did not cool, so that was a positive for us. Next we went down to the hotel restaurant for breakfast. Most of the items on their menu for breakfast they did not have in stock, including something as basic as bread. We asked how do you advertise that you have continental breakfast but don't have the items to cook a continental breakfast. We asked for fried eggs. The eggs came with liquid in the eggs. I asked them why there is liquid in fried eggs, they could not provide an answer. We ended up not having breakfast at the hotel. This hotel could be really nice if they paid attention to details. The issues we had are fixable but because they are not paying attention, these little things become a big deal for their guest experience."
