We booked to camp here for a weekend in May, had booked in a bit of a rush due to most other campsites being full. After booking I came across all the bad reviews and thought it may be the only reason it had availability so was extremely worried about our stay. That said we had a great weekend. Is the campsite the best I have been on...no, but it certainly isn't the worst either. The people complaining about getting asked to leave and asked to follow the rules are likely the sort of people that I detest sharing a campsite with anyway, you know the entitled kind that let their kids run riot and party till the early hours. If you are a respectful camper and follow the rules I don't think you have anything to worry about. Maureen the woman who runs it is not the warm and fuzzy type but she was pleasant enough and helped when we had any queries. The booking system was a bit old fashioned in that it was all done by email but it was straight forward enough, it likely just puts people off that want convenience of being able to book and pay online. The campsite itself was situated in a lovely setting, the views of the hills, the river running right next to your tent and the location near to Callander were all fantastic. It is also close to Loch Lubnaig with access down the river or down a lovely walk along the river bank. The only thing that really lets it down slightly are the outdated toilets, with the showers that take a 20p peice, most modern campsites have done away with these. Again however, the shower was excellent, very warm and good pressure, with hooks on the door and a small stool to keep your things off the floor, the only thing missing was a shower curtain to stop your things getting splashed. There is also free fishing along the river bank that is owned by the campsite, we took advantage of this and it was a beautiful spot to relax and fish. We never caught anything but others did and from the amount of fry you could see it was a healthy river indeed. Would I return...yes I probably would, as we did enjoy our stay, although if it had been a bit more modern I would be returning sooner. One last thing, take a walk along to the Broch Cafe for breakfast, it was excellent
