Riad 91 is excellent place to stay in Casablanca, especially if you want more of a cultural experience. Apparently, it is also the only true riad in the city. This is obvious from its location in the Medina and the unique architecture of the accommodation. The building has an unusual construction with interesting knooks and rooms which for me greatly added to its appeal. However, if you are a person who requires an elevator, then be aware that climbing stairs is required. The single room (Room 1) I stayed in has a desk and chair and a bureau in the entrance area with doors leading to either the sink and toilet or the shower. Then, there is a rather steep metal staircase to the second floor lounge area off which leads to a room which just fits a double bed. By the way, I loved the firm bed which provided me better sleeps than I get at home as long as I used my earplugs to keep out the medina sounds in the early part of the night. With that said, going up to the terrace to lie and snooze in the sun after a day of wandering the city is a real bonus. I found the provided breakfast more than adequate with a strong Moroccan coffee, bread with butter and jam, a boiled egg, yogurt, freshly squeezed orange and a dish of olives an excellent way to start the day But I think the friendly staff is what made my stay so enjoyable and I especially appreciate Houcine and Khadija who patiently responded to my endless questions and engaged with me in some interesting conversations. Khadija also went out of her way to help me with experiencing the tram system as well. In addition, Houcine's theory on men and coffee shops was a much appreciated perspective. Overall, the two of them truly assisted in increasing my understanding of Moroccan life and culture. If you are headed to Casablanca and want more than just a regular hotel experience, I would recommend Riad91!
