Context of review - family of 4 with 2 kids 15 and 10 - on first trip to Spain. This hotel comes with many accolades some of which was deserving and some not. Love to hear from other Americans but my overarching view was this property caters to very wealthy Europeans and Americans are tolerated. We never felt welcomed and neither did my children. No one cared to learn my name or even answer the phone when I called reception addressing me by name. There was no warmth anywhere here which was in dramatic contrast to the properties we enjoyed in Greece last summer. I often felt like they were doing me a favor when I asked for anything. Grounds: beautiful. Really beautiful. Pools may be nicest I have seen and warm water. Beach club was a 5 min drive and same beautiful pool and chairs. Beach itself was awful but that is just the area. Not hotel's fault. Room - we had a 2 bed family suite and it was huge. And great. Furniture a little old style, clunky etc but really a great room with kitchenette and 2 balconies overlooking the adult pool. AC worked pretty well. Food - breakfast is included with room so they make a big deal of it. No luxurious buffet which we prefer because of selection and pacing of meal but it is deliberate and consistent with dining at the property generally. They want it to be an experience and they do a nice job of it so can't complain. We are at each of the 3 restaurants and my overarching observation is the staff doesn't adjust the experience based on the table. We ate at the signature restaurant, Jardin, on first night and it took 40 min to get menus because they wanted us to have cocktails etc etc. Great if we were a couple or older family but not great when we had 2 kids and sat down at 9pm! Meals are all very stuffy, drawn out ordeals - to be clear - this isn't a complaint more of an observation. We love long meals where we aren't rushed but this was next level. Also we felt that push to sell us on expensive choices all the time which gets to be a bit much. The one diamond in the rough was Antonio the Som who really cared about what we were drinking and was the opposite from finding some great options that weren't obscenely priced. He was lovely. Service - you can probably get sense based on my intro but top properties in the world need to have a service level that can be flexible to all sorts of travelers - young couples, young families, elderly etc. Not this property. Their way was the only way. And their articulation of policies was highly inconsistent - I asked about the ages for the "adult pool" during our check in and they said both our kids were fine to use but on day 3 a young staff member aggressively ran up to me when we just arrived saying my daughter now had to be 14. I asked the front of the house staff who told me she had to be 15 so I got 3 different years during my stay. Seemed like policies varied based on the circumstances. Spa booked both my daughters for a massage late in the day and I was told
