I wasn't going to put a review on here but due to having no response or apology I have decided to put on the email I sent to Donington Manor. Hi I'm not normally one to complain but I really feel the need to inform you about our recent stay. We booked in on Tuesday the 20th May and checked out on Thursday the 22nd of May. I had booked it for my husband for his birthday but we were left very disappointed with a number of issues. One of the reasons I chose your hotel was due to you having a bar and restaurant onsite, I was already aware that this option wasn't available on Tuesday so that wasn't a problem. So we had decided that Wednesday night we would dress up for the occasion of my husbands birthday and dine in your restaurant and have a few drinks in the bar, but the reception and the dining area and bar were closed up all day and there was no one around for us to even discuss the matter. On the Wednesday morning we were woken up at 8 am by the workers outside our room blaring out music, which left us a little annoyed but we managed to get back off to sleep until 9 am when we were woken again by someone unlocking our door and proceeding to walk in !! I managed to shout out to them and a lady shouted sorry ( I'm presuming maybe a cleaner) but it's totally unacceptable. Then Wednesday afternoon someone tried the door again, but didn't open it. I suffer quite bad with anxiety and I felt very on edge after that, and it without a doubt affected our stay and my quality of sleep. We also spoke to a gentleman outside who was booked in and couldn't get hold of anyone and he had been waiting hours ! I do agree with other reviews I have read that the rooms need updating, but for us that wasn't the major problem but having access to the reception and dining area was and the lack of consideration to the privacy in our room. We would have loved to have tried your food either for breakfast or lunch but sadly that wasn't an option for us. The idea was really for us to have come and relaxed and had everything we needed within the hotel, not having to go out and find places to eat and drink elsewhere. When we first arrived at the hotel we were told just to shout up if we needed anything, such a shame there was no one available to do this. I really feel that we didn't get the service we should have had for the money we paid. Please take this complaint on board and hopefully make the necessary changes to your establishment in due course. For your reference we were in room 26.
