Hartwood Hall by Greene King Inns

Check in is in the service area of the pub and the bar man was very polite and helpful. This was a v last minute booking and so didn’t have much options, with the inn only having one single room remaining. The room was v small with a single bed. Everything was very simple, and clean. However there was a distinct smell of mould when entering the room. And the mould was apparent in the bathroom. Amenities were also minimal. Not cheap (£80) so did expect a little more for something in this part of town/country.

We stopped off here for a break and a bite to eat on the way to the Lakes. Far better than any motorway services and about two minutes off the motorway at Chorley. Fantastic service. Great prices. Nice surroundings. Good food. What’s not to like? The two of us had coffee and a sharing plate of chicken kebabs. Perfect for what we were looking for and it all came to less than £19. Unbeatable.

Disappointing Stay I booked three rooms on the 9th March 2024 at the Hartwood Hall Hotel. The staff were fantastic - friendly, helpful, and always there when we needed them. The food at the restaurant was also delicious. However, there were a few things that brought our stay down a notch. First, it was frustrating that a lot of the non-alcoholic drink options weren't actually available. They also didn't have decaf coffee, which wasn't ideal. For people who don't take dairy, they couldn't offer any plant-based milk alternatives and for that reason we didn't stay for breakfast. But the biggest issue by far was the housekeeping. Our bathroom bin was overflowing with used sanitary towels. We even mentioned this to the hotel directly, but they never got back to us. Overall, while the service and food were great, the lack of drink choices, the missing decaf coffee and plant-based milk, and especially the unclean room put a damper on our experience. Considering they completely ignored our complaint about the housekeeping, we wouldn't recommend staying here until they address these issues.

The staff were all excellent, the food was tasty, and the location was perfect for my needs. It is an old building with very thick walls, and I so could not get data on my mobile. This didn't matter because the the wifi was free, fast, and easy to access. However, the room was tiny. There was a small wardrobe with a short hanging rail and one shelf. There were no drawers, and no where to put my suitcase. I had to push the bed back in order to sit at the desk. The window was small, and looked out onto a big hedge. This meant that the room was always quite dark, and I had to have the light on even during the day. The light wasn't very bright, but it was better than nothing. I imagine that their next big expenditures will be air conditioning and better plumbing. The shower was hot, but not powerful - especially in the mornings during peak use. There is no air conditioning, and the fan was ineffective. Even without covers it was too hot to get to sleep after hot days. I was unsatisfied, but the hotel said that I couldn't change rooms - even though the other single room(s?) were currently empty. I would have cancelled and gone elsewhere, but they had already put the cost of the full two weeks on my card. I was in room 7, which is sold as a single room but contains a double bed. I would not stay in that room again, but I would book one of the double or family rooms which are bigger.

OK stay, perfectly clean, breakfast very nice. Arrived at 1.45 as had to get to a funeral while waiting to speak to barman as he was serving, I glanced at breakfast menu, the barman barked at me, sorry we don't do all day breakfast, he came across as so aggressive I apoligised for looking at breakfast, then when he was free we said we had booked, again very aggressive he said sorry no booking in till 2 o clock!! A nice lady came up behind him and smiled and said of course we can book you in now, perhaps he was new but definitely not welcoming, Also I asked for an orange juice, it came from a carton, tasted disgusting and was charged £3.09 for the privilege, I left it and we all went to a different pub in the town for an evening meal, (which was packed but friendly) when we returned to our pub /hotel later on it was nearly empty, tells a story!!!

Called last Saturday with my wife.Greeted after a while by I man then led to a table.The food was ok but service was cold .We called here a month ago and was good.The menu has now changed and we won’t be going back.

Hotel is right by a main road, room was like an oven so windows needed to be open all night, very noisy. Tiny fan in room ineffectual. Had booked breakfast for 7am, but door was locked to restaurant. Me and a few other guests found our way in through kitchen where chef said tabke staff hadn't shown up, chef helpful as could be and breakfast good but overall place had an unprofessional feel.

We booked to stay at this hotel as we had previously stayed and eaten there. On arrival greeted by Lisa who was very helpful. Stayed in room 3 which was clean and tidy (comfortable bed and pillows) but a bit on the small side for two people. Meal in the Friday evening was average. Good service, again by Lisa. Not much to say about breakfast on the Saturday. Nothing laid out, didn't listen to our requests and we got the impression that the person didn't want to be there!!! What a contrast on Sunday morning. Breakfast table laid out with cereal, toast, pastries, hot and cold drinks. The full English breakfast was much better than the day before. Again Lisa was on duty and checked we had everything we needed. Lisa deserves to be employee of the month!

This is the second time we have stayed at the Hartwood. Accommodation is clean and comfortable. There is a large menu choice suitable for all in clean spacious surroundings. The night was made by the staff, they were polite and welcoming, nothing was to much trouble considering the place was busy. A credit to the general manager who made sure every table was greeted and attended to timeously.
