Has serious potential. The cottage we had was “Pinot Noir”. I personally loved the rustic decor, however it wouldn’t be for everyone. There is no fan or air con, and no screens on the windows or doors. There is a thick layer of mould around the top of the porcelain kitchen sink. The king bed was two singles pushed together, one bearable the other not. The separate single had soiled sheets. Awoke covered in bites. Breakfast is provided - bread, jam, butter, weetbix etc. the Wi-Fi and internet were terrible, had to climb the hill at the back of the cottage for reception. However, I think I’d still go back. It would be lovely in the cooler months and the restaurant next door is great. The decor is amazing an a welcome break from your everyday motel. All the best
This is not luxury level accommodation, however for a place to sleep and relax in your private geothermal pool it is amazing value. We have stayed in a three bed unit and couple unit and although quite different layout both units were warm and comfortable. First in summer season and again in winter. Both times bed was comfy, however we encountered excess noise from a neighbouring property in the couple unit as this backed on to a residential home (not a resthome which was the three bed unit). To us this was exactly what we were looking for - functionality. We only needed tea / coffee, pool to relax and bed. TV was functional but not ‘high definition’ but that really was not a major concern. Parakai is an acceptable commute from Auckland / North Shore. Ideal for a relaxing change of scene and the Imaxx Indian restaurant in Helensville is a great nearby dining option. Personally I would not stay longer than two nights as that is time to relax but not get bored. Overall recommend. We certainly made a point to return and if it was more luxurious that would change the price and eliminate it from it’s target market.

There were nine of us in our group that stayed at the hotel. The service at the hotel was great and the receptionist was accomodating towards our needs. The rooms were clean and sufficient, the beds were comfortable. Other than the busy main road, it was great to be so close to the motorway for easy access - there was no noise audible from the road so that was a plus.

On arrival we were advised that reception had closed although it had only just gone 5:40pm, however after some effort they managed to check us in. We were also advised on the check in form that they could only offer us dinner at 5:30 because they had a large group due in. That time had obviously passed and after some debate they conceded to offer us dinner as long as we could go in between 6-6:30. Dinner when we had it was mediocre and over priced. Having been travelling for some weeks , we felt that they abused their customers by over charging because they knew we had little alternative if we wanted to eat. On getting to the room, whilst large, the covers to the bed were stained. There were cobwebs throughout the accommodation and the place was dirty in general. Also worryingly the electric fuse box was ajar because it was not fitted correctly around the fuses. The room felt like going back to the 1970s and the windows were not fitted properly so drafts could be felt coming into the room. Generally the room smelled damp. The picture on their trip advisor page must have been taken some time ago as whilst this looks like how the room could have been, it no longer looks like that now. Again the bathroom was large but the tiles were coming off the wall and some were missing altogether. The next morning we had already been told we could not have breakfast until 9am because of the large party. When we went to breakfast the party was still there and the buffet was empty apart from a few scraps. We asked if they planned to replenish it but whilst they suggested they would, this did not happen. We were offered a cooked breakfast but even that was poorly cooked with the eggs virtually fried so hard that they may as well have been hard boiled. The only redeeming feature of this place is that the views over Auckland and beyond are stunning.
We spent the christmas holiday with two other families in the penthouse (room 3.1). We were all extremely pleased with the facilities and services at this brand new hotel. The living room was spacious and bright, and all rooms were sparkling clean. The hotel staff were friendly and attentive. The refreshing and stunning view overlooking the mountain and creek was a massive gift to our trip. The kitchen was fully equipped and everything was brand new. There was a bar and several restaurants just around the corner, all within walking distance. The atrium garden on the ground floor was also a highlight you won't want to miss. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and will definitely come back again. Highly recommended!
Location The Quest is located in the north shore suburb of Albany. We only chose it because we have relatives living in Long Bay, whom we had come to visit. However, if you’re coming as a tourist to see the sights of Auckland, then this may not be the ideal place to be. To get to the city, for example, we would take an Uber to Devonport, and from there, it’s a short (approx. 20 mins) ferry ride into the city, but all up, for Uber and ferry fares it could cost between $NZ40-50 and take an hour and a half depending on traffic and the waiting time for the ferry. There might be a bus option but we didn’t investigate that. When it came time to leave Auckland, the cost of an Uber to the airport, leaving Quest at 1.30pm on a weekday, was $NZ85. The receptionist told us that despite the out of the way location, the Quest is popular with business travellers and that did make sense, because the Westfield shopping centre is nearby, and there’s a virtual satellite suburb surrounding the Westfield, with dozens of other businesses, shops, cafes and restaurants. The other reason, I guess people would stay here, is if, like us, they are visiting relatives who live in one of the outer north shore suburbs like Torbay, Long Bay, Browns Bay etc, but if I came here purely as a tourist, I would choose to be in the city. Despite its small size, the traffic in Auckland could be pretty horrendous at times, which just adds to your taxi or Uber costs. There isn’t much in the near vicinity of the hotel, apart from a few little shops and restaurants. But the aforementioned Westfield can be easily reached by Uber, or even on foot, although it isn’t a particularly pleasant walk, alongside the highway and it takes about 20-25 minutes. Most of the time, when visiting Westfield, we choose to Uber there and back, and that generally costs a modest $NZ8 or $9 each way. Apartment A comfy little lounge-room was the main feature of the apartment, with a wooden dining table with steel legs, four solid wooden chairs also with steel legs, a small desk and chair with a strong desk light and enough power points to charge all your appliances. There were two comfy lounge chairs in rather dark, sombre colours of olive green and brown, and far too many cushions for such a small space, so they continuously had to be rotated around to make room to sit. The smart TV had local channels as well as YouTube, Netflix, Amazon Prime, pretty much everything you would need from a TV, including a fancy remote with a laser pointer. There was a little coffee table and the whole place was carpeted except for the bathroom and kitchenette, which was just as well, because despite it being mid summer, we found Auckland a cold place and on some days, temps got as low as 18 degrees, complete with wind and rain. Fortunately, the reverse cycle air con worked well, so we had it on heat at 27 degrees most of the time and that at least helped to keep the place warm. I don’t think that we ever used the cooling cycle.
Formidable
