Billie's Backpackers Hostel

There are not enough words to describe the Experience & the Awesome Hospitality from Bille & Art. Soon as you arrived you are greeted with a warm smile, full tour of the hostel, help with your luggage, immediately ask you if you need anything. During your stay, they go above and beyond your expectations by making sweet treats, even sometimes meals, from time to time checking on you and so much more. Besides the Hostel being Beautiful on the outside & inside it's kept cleaned, amenities that you can used and need especially if you are a world traveler and forgot something "Free"!. If you are coming to Fairbanks, AK, you would be doing yourself, family or friends a disservice if you don't stay at Billie's . Deserves more than 5 Stars, if I could I would give it 10 Stars!

A charming and lovely warm place in beautiful Alaska. Billie's hostel has a calm and relaxed atmosphere. The host (Billie) is like the perfect grandmother we all have or have had, warm and helpfull. Thank you for three wonderful days in Fairbanks :)

There is something very special about this place that starts with Billie herself and reaches out to everyone who stays there. It’s such a lovely warm, homely feeling and the nicest vibe I’ve ever come across in a hostel. I stayed in a private room with a super comfy bed but the communal areas were like a home away from home. Everyone was so friendly and warm. Billie is an amazing woman who has put her heart into this place which has been her family home and now home to travellers from around the world. Great location and great value, I highly recommend this lovely place.

I had a great experience at Billie's. The bed was comfortable and the (multiple) bathrooms more than adequate, but more than anything, the people -- from Billie and her family to the fellow hostelmates there -- were an absolute delight. I particularly enjoyed the hostel's convenient location, which is a stone's throw from UAF and a quick drive downtown or to the airport. Creamer's Field is also very close by, allowing you to easily access unobstructed vistas for northern lights viewing (winter) and wild tracts of land that harbor some of the continent's most incredible bird species (summer). You can even see the lights from right outside the hostel's front door -- if Mother Nature complies. For all these reasons, it's no wonder Billie's has a consistent track record of positive experiences. I'll certainly be coming back the next time I'm in Fairbanks!

I am back in Australia after my ninth visit to “Billies Backpackers” Each visit was ten weeks long proof of how great this place is. We first discovered Billies in 2000 and loved it so much and indeed the town of Fairbanks, Having turned 90 years I had such a good time I am already plannng and saving for next year Yours Sincerely Shirley Redhead

SCABIES. I stayed at this hostel and got scabies. If you don’t know what they are, be glad: they are a highly contagious microscopic parasite that burrow into your skin and lay their eggs in you. If left untreated, they will spread and essentially colonize your whole body. The bites itch like crazy, and the only cure is a very expensive ($160) prescription; nothing over-the-counter works. So I guess how I spent the rest of my Alaskan vacation? When I emailed about it…with pictures…the response from the owner’s son basically said “Gee, that’s too bad“ and then proceeded to mansplain scabies to me. No offer of a refund or any compensation. So, I paid a grand total of $282.76 to get scabies from this hospital and get it treated, which was a great discount for the doctor visit and the script or else it would’ve been well over $600. Not to mention the misery of the itching, the potential of spreading it wherever I went, being unable to do activities I had planned because they would have spread the scabies to the other innocent people, like myself, and the time I had to waste at the clinic and getting the script as well as doing the actual treatment itself. Do yourself a favor: spend a little more and book yourself someplace where you can rest easy or you just may find yourself not resting at all. Stay here at your own risk. To the hostel: do better. Period.
