Deer Lake Motel

I spent one night at this modern hotel after coming back from L'Anse aux Meadows National Historic and Port aux Choix National Historic Sites. It was the perfect location to end the day. The hotel was spotless and the solid surface flooring in the room gives is a "cleaner" feel. Room 135 had a small refrigerator and microwave and I liked being able to park my motorcycle outside my door. I ate dinner at the on-site restaurant and it was "meh", but there is a Tim Horton's and a Dairy Queen next door. The woman staffing the front desk was welcoming and switched me to a first floor on her own. Even the cleaning staff was cheerful when I ran into them in the hallway as they were starting their day. There is a laundry, $4 total for washing and drying. The hotel also has seating areas in back in the grass with comfortable Adirondack chairs.

Imagine our Christmas Day surprise! We arrived from our long drive to a wonderful greeting by Shelley. Then, to our delight, the hotel had prepared a Christmas turkey dinner for all of their guests. Seriously, talk about a caring and giving business! The room is great, too. I recommend this motel for your future trips, not just Christmas!

We stayed at the Deer Lake Motel for a provincial hockey tournament and it was amazing. When we first booked it was because the Holiday Inn was completely booked and most of us were upset to not have a pool and waterslide. We will not stay elsewhere on hockey trip from now on. The staff are amazing. Always polite and accommodating, even when our kids were being loud. They gave us a room for mini sticks and parent drinks and as long as the noise was reasonable they were happy. The buffet breakfast is great,much better than the holiday Inn, and again, the staff were simply amazing. Even the location is better. The Big Stop, Tim's, and Dairy Queen are within walking distance. Everyone on the team agreed that we were lucky to have stayed there. I highly recommend them.

At the crossing of the Transcanadian road and the 430, this motel is a practical stop, Deer Lake itself being mainly a town of services. The welcoming was professional, the room was standard with a good bed, tv, bathroom with usual toiletries and towels, fridge, microwave, coffeemaker, air conditioning. Everything was clean. T.V and wi-fi worked great. Since our room was at the back, we did not hear any noise. Plenty of free parking out front. The included breakfast (bacon, eggs, hashbrown toast) was served at the restaurant starting at 7 a.m by a cheerful waitress. It was plentiful and well-prepared. The motel immediate neighbors consisted of a gas station, a small liquor store, the tourist office and a couple of fast food places. Within 2 km, you had a grocery store and a nice sandy beach on a beautiful lake! So Deer Lake is definitely a good place to stop for the traveler.

Clean rooms, welcoming staff, restaurant onsite. Outdoor room entrances with drive up parking space is great for loading your vehicle - not dragging luggage through the foyer is so convenient. Full, hot breakfast included was excellent!

We stayed at the Deer Lake Motel for 2 nights during our NL trip and it was excellent. Room was clean and comfortable, and staff was very friendly and helpful. The front desk staff was very accomodating when we arrived before the earliest check-in and moved us into an available room so we could drop off our bags. The food at the restaurant was delicious - I really enjoyed the turkey vegetable soup I had one day for lunch and their pan-fried cod was wonderful. The hotel offers a free breakfast for guests staying in their hotel - scrambled eggs, toast, homefries, and choice of sausages or fried ham. I think you can order a different breakfast if you don't want the free one (that would have a cost), but we always took the free one. Motel is conveniently located just off the Trans-Canada, which makes it very easy to get on the road to explore. There is no elevator in the motel, so if you have any issues with mobility, you may wish to request a ground-floor room.
