Westenra Arms Hotel

Need to update their bar menu prices.. we viewed the menu in advance online & got a shock when menus were handed to us! Everything was almost 2 to 3 euro more expensive that advertised!! A dessert was 9.50, 10 & 10.50 at the cheapest. Absolute rip off... hence to say we didn't order it.. has got very expensive all round..

A lovely hotel bar and the staff were lovely. We managed to get a window seat and thought it would be great for people watching at the front of the hotel but the window baskets are so overgrown with weeds so couldn’t see much. Just needs a bit of cutting back.

We stayed one night at the Monaghan and loved the staff, our room, and the restaurant. It was a Sunday and the place was busy. Our dinner and breakfasts were delicious, beds were comfortable, and the staff were accommodating and lovely. The reception staff was kind, the manager was happy to help us with bags, and everyone was helpful to the older patrons who were also staying there. Summer is busy and most hotels like the Westenra Arms have trouble getting and keeping staff. We understand how that can affect the quality of service.

Spent two nights along with friends . Great accommodation, great food and brilliant friendly and attentive staff .Very relaxing atmosphere, good parking facilities- overall a very reasonable and enjoyable break Top marks throughout our stay

Haven't been to the Westenra in a long time so decided to go for a birthday treat. The hotel is a very homely and welcoming hotel but unfortunately the food didn't live up to recommendations. There are only 2 vegetarian options and sadly, the burger was not pleasant at all. Some staff weren't very friendly, abrupt and unmannerly but on the other hand, there were equally lovely staff who were very friendly and pleasant. A disappointing experience and definitely wouldn't recommend to vegetarians.

Today we visited the hotel for a spot of lunch, here is my honest review: 1. Staff - now, the staff were very friendly and were fine. There were no issues from me towards the staff whatsoever. 2. Food - now this is where the food bought the review right down. The lunch menu is a set menu and a Carvery. The prices were extremely high for the quality of the food. Example, I got a portion of chips and this came to €4.50. I got a small bowl (no bigger than a condiment bowl) and the chips were cold, dry and certainly not fresh. For the price, I expect more and fresher food! The lasagna was not that good either. The soup was average but not as good as other establishments. 3. Location - it was a lovely venue, smack dab in the middle of Monaghan town. Great addition is the car park 4. Facilities - the men’s toilet was rather small which isn’t normally an issue. However, the tap did not work, making it impossible to clean your hands, meaning god knows what could be spread throughout the venue. Overall, I wouldn’t come back to this hotel for food. Overpriced and poor quality.
