Houndgate Townhouse

A beautiful truly boutique hotel, that is a hidden gem in the heart of Darlington. Comfortable stylish guest rooms and friendly, helpful staff means the guests are really cared for. The SaltFish restaurant has the best food I've had North of London.

We had to find somewhere to stay quickly due to a family emergency - this place is a gem - it is warm, comfy and welcoming - the staff are all friendly, helpful and give brilliant service. The food was lovely - from breakfast through to dinner. We will definitely be back!

Great room, very comfortable bed, everything you need, slippers, dressing gowns even ear plugs. Breakfast was one of the best I've had. Staff really friendly and very helpful. We had a lovely stay and I would definitely recommend Houndgate Townhouse Hotel.

We stayed in room number Six with a fabulous roll top bath and beautiful design, and it was a disabled room too. The staff were amazingly helpful and friendly, it was busy when we arrived with a wedding but was looked after well. The room was gorgeous however came with earplugs as original single glazed windows and road front view meant you did hear everything. I managed some sleep but could put some people off

If you're looking for a lovely hotel in the heart of Darlington you really can't go wrong with the Houndgate. The food is lovely and restaurant very popular with locals. Hotel room excellent and service top notch with wonderfully friendly, experienced & helpful staff, very responsive. We stayed for 4 nights, and booked dinner each evening - only one of our meals was slightly disappointing. Excellent choice of breakfasts. Very comfortable stay.

I chose this bed and breakfast because it was cheaper than Premier Inn. What a lucky find! It represented excellent value for money, with beautifully designed bedrooms and modern, high spec bathrooms. Although small, our room was luxurious, with welcome extras like sparkling water and filter coffee (although it would be good to provide more decaff coffee, decaff tea and milk). The room was also absolutely pristine. This attention to detail and level of cleanliness extended to all the public spaces; even the disabled toilet was palatial and stylish! Breakfasts were fresh and tasty, with a good choice (although I felt the falafel on the vegetarian breakfast was misplaced, particularly as it appeared again on the evening menu! A vegetarian sausage would perhaps have been more appropriate for breakfast). The disabled lift was also useful for those with mobility issues. The location is excellent, with many interesting and diverse dining options within a 5 minute walk (we particularly enjoyed TAO noodle bar). In conclusion, an excellent B&B for the price, and one which we shall recommend to family and friends.
