During our trip to Zamboanga, we stayed at Rehan Grand Suites for three nights and availed of the Suite Room since there were four of us who were supposed to stay. I initially thought that Php 1,400 per night (they offered a discounted rate since we went there off-season) for four pax was a steal. Moreover, the location was great. It is one tricycle ride (1.2 km) from the Bus station. The Cathedral and Plaza is about 300 meters away. The Boulevard is less than a kilometer away. The Dipolog airport is 2 km away. Although the hotel did not offer laundry services, there was a laundromat across the street. However, I was not happy with my experience with Rehan. First, their Suite Room was not a suite. Although conveniently located at the ground floor, their “Suite” Room had everything in just one room—the beds, the TV and tables, the refrigerator and the sink. It was a studio, not a suite. And the room was not grand. The interior of the rooms looked dark and gloomy. Second, the internet connection in the hotel was terrible. The Wi-Fi connection was strongest at the bed near the door. And yet, the best that we got was just a trickle. Further down the room towards the air-conditioning unit, the Wi-Fi connection gets lost. It was not just the internet connection but the cellular signal was poor as well. I use Smart network and I had to go to the main lobby to have decent phone conversations. Third, the television in our room was not working. Upon check-in, the front desk informed us of this problem. I asked if it was not possible to be transferred to a different room with a working television. The receptionist informed us that the room with the working television was further down the hall and the Wi-Fi signal did not reach the room. So between a working television and Wi-Fi, we chose the Wi-Fi. Albeit as I mentioned earlier, their Wi-Fi connection was wanting. Fourth, their promotional materials mentioned the use of a refrigerator and “hot pot.” When I asked what this “hot pot” was, they clarified that it was an electric kettle. There were no issues with the refrigerator, but the electric kettle was a different story. The receptionist informed us that if we needed the electric kettle, we could request it in the kitchen. It turned out that they had only one working electric kettle. One. For the kitchen and the guests. One. Just one. How did I find out? So we requested the electric kettle during our first breakfast in the hotel and they provided it. After a quick bite, we left for a short day tour of Dapitan. When we returned that night, the front desk reception told us that whenever we borrowed the electric kettle, it should be returned afterward because they only had ONE. They had retrieved the electric kettle from our room while we were away. The following morning, we borrowed the electric kettle again. Not half an hour had passed and there was a knock on our door. They wanted the electric kettle back for use in the kitchen. Fifth, although the
