Chambers Wildlife Rainforest Lodges

We stayed two nights in early May. This hotel was relatively inexpensive and did not have AC so I was a little concerned it would be a roughing it type experience. I was so impressed with our one bedroom apartment! It was clean and cool even without AC. Elevated off the ground on a second floor with a balcony and the birds really did come and eat fruit off the balcony railings in the morning. The room had a dehumidifier which worked quite well. There were 3 of us in this place and we had a lot of space, two rooms and a full kitchen. It was very comfortable and quiet except for the noise of the rain on the roof. They even did a load of laundry for us which was very convenient. There are walking trails to Lake Eacham and we loved the viewing platform where you could sit in the evening and watch for wildlife. We saw Sugar gliders and a possum. We thought it would be a lot of mosquitos but did not notice any. It was very quiet and pleasant. The lodge had coffee. The room itself had instant coffee and tea and pots and pans but no coffeemaker so it was vital that the lodge had one. This was a great location for exploring the waterfalls in the area. We also did the trail around the lake which was muddy, as we were there on two rainy days. WE tried the pool at the lodge and that was great also. It was a quiet place with pleasant fellow guests at the viewing platform. It was nice to be able to cook. WE also went to the Yungaburra hotel to eat, which was recommended by the Hotel owners, and this was a great recommendation.

The highest of stars possible is given to Chambers Wildlife Rainforest Lodge. From the very beginning of a cyclone-impacted trip, the staff of Chambers was very easy to work with. We had to change our days when Brisbane airport closed and we were re-routed to Sidney. They were pleasant and, compared to some of the venders, made us feel welcome. The lodge rooms are equipped with a small kitchenette, 2 reclining chairs, a comfortable bed and very clean bathroom. Each room has a deck with table and chairs and a rail used to entice birds to come closer. The pavilion used for the night viewing was a pleasant surprise and we saw animals each night, even in the rain! Kudos to whomever compiled the information folder left in each room, describing things to see and do in the area, local shops and restaurants, and what animals were possible to see. When the staff was told my husband was immunocompromised and needed bottled water, they brought us some. (The Foodworks in Jungaburra sells a large container of filtered water also) I wish we would have spent more than 3 nights there! We used Chambers as a hub to go out and visit the Cathedral Fig, Malanda Falls, Lake Eachem and more. Thanks Chambers! (note: our weather was cool and we did not need A/C. If you visit during the hottest months, that ?may? be a problem???)

I spent one night at Chambers Wildlife Rainforest Lodges on my way through the area for work. The owners were lovely when I arrived and I felt very welcome. The rooms are private, have everything you need and are very comfortable and clean. The walk from the accommodation and around Lake Eacham is stunning and a wonderful activity after a long drive. I enjoyed the wildlife viewing in the evening with other guests and had an incredible sleep. I'm hoping to bring my family here soon and enjoy a longer stay!

I first visited Chambers 30 years ago and was keen to revisit the experience. My second visit did not disappoint. The accommodation is comfortable and spacious and set right in the rainforest. There is also a pool and spa as well as a communal barbeque area. This is much more than your average holiday stay - it's an amazing experience. Each evening we sat at the viewing platform and watched as sugar gliders, bandicoots, striped possums and other nocturnal animals came to feed. We also visited nearby Yungaburra and managed to see lots of platypus and even a tree kangaroo in the small wildlife reserve. We had a fantastic holiday! Thanks so much Chambers.

Yes the grounds are really wonderful. Unfortunately the place is missing some TLC When we came to our room the fridge was not defrosted and almost bursting of ice. We had to defrost before using it. The same with the air dehydrator. It was full of water. In the pool a light was broken and hanging around. The pool and guest lounge deck was nice, but it was not serviced on new years day... so not tea or any water. What annoyed us most was the bathroom in cabin 9. On their homepage they just show the modern bathrooms. Think of UK bathrooms from the 1970' s that is how ours was. We would not stay there again.

Great Location - Poor Accommodation & Service! We first stayed here 11years ago and were VERY disappointed (my last review is still listed here on Trip Advisor - September 2013). My partner thought she’d give us a night away and after reading some of the more recent 4-5 star reviews, we thought that things had changed. Unfortunately, we were wrong. I’m not sure if other people have a different expectation than us when paying $200+ per night, or they were lucky to get a better room, but things have only marginally been upgraded and our experience doesn’t come close to what some other reviewers have written. For $200 per night for a one bedroom unit, we expect better than what Chambers Wildlife Rainforest Lodges provide. We were placed in a centre unit of three. The interior of this unit was better than the one we inhabited in 2013 and had been given a facelift with newer furnishing, upgraded floors, ceiling and walls. However, whilst renovating the walls I think they forgot to include any sound proofing. The noise by other guests next door, from both left and right of the unit, was ridiculous. What sounded like doors or cupboards being slammed shut went on and on during the late evening and early morning. There was no mould this time and a de-humidifier was going flat out when we arrived. This seemed to be working well and the room was dry. We don’t use a de-humidifier where we live, were not familiar with it and as there were no instructions or notice to turn it off, we left it going. Not a good idea, because at 1:45am the unit decided to start beeping loudly to advise us of something wrong. I immediately turned it off. Although we didn’t expect anyone snooping around outside, the bedroom curtains didn’t shut completely (see attached photo) and there were NO curtains in the front room, apart from see-through white mesh ones. Privacy was non-existent. The bathroom lights didn’t work - virtually just glowed - a candle would have provided better light. We had to compensate for this lack of light by using one of the bedside table lamps (see attached photo) which was ridiculous and it looked like the wiring at the damaged lamp plug could potentially be dangerous (see attached photo). When we told the reception about this, it was made out to be our fault for not turning up the dimmer switch. Funny thing was, they didn’t have a dimmer switch, just on on/off switch. As I said at the start, there have been some improvements, however, they forgot to sort out the gas cooker. The control nobs on the cooker were basically unreadable (see attached photo) and badly damaged. The gas was barely coming out (maybe the bottle was empty?) and was only just enough to warm some steak we’d purchased for dinner. As to the wildlife, we saw a sugar glider, a long-nosed bandicoot, a honeyeater and a whip bird. We also heard a wompoo pigeon. The sugar glider and bandicoot looked like the ones we saw being feed last visit but I don’t think they’d have lasted 11 y
