The Mooring Post

Convenient location to explore Gloucester Quays, a 40-45 minutes walk or 10 minute drive. Lovely surroundings next to the River Severn and Over Canal Basin. Just off an A road. Large double bedroom with jacuzzi bath, mini fridge and tea/coffee making facilities. We’d definitely stay here again!

We had the garden flat for our large dog which was just fantastic as he doesn’t like to be inside. The bed was extremely comfortable and there is a small fridge in the room which is very handy. Beautiful bathroom. If the hotel restaurant isn't open then the Toby carvery is just a two minute walk. The dog walking is fantastic, the hotel is set on a small canal. Also there is a little path which takes you under the bridge and out at Alney Island nature reserve. It’s very quiet and right on the river Severn.

I don’t tend to leave poor reviews at all but this experience was particularly unpleasant. Booked four rooms for family members to stay in on the night of my wedding at Elmore Court, but our guests were told they were only able to stay in three - with guests therefore made to share a bed - again, this is despite us having paid for four. Key, though, is that since then, instead of trying to help us to resolve the issue, the Mooring Post has been nothing but defensive, rude and unpleasant to deal with, offering really strange reasons as to why we couldn’t have a refund on the room we paid for. Eventually, after a huge hassle, they begrudgingly agreed to give a partial refund for the room they didn’t let us use, but even this small refund hasn’t materialised. I can’t comment personally on the rooms as I didn’t stay, the guests said they were fine, but that they couldn’t wait to leave in the morning due to the uncomfortable atmosphere in the place. I’d urge you to think twice about spending your money with these people. Hopefully the mooring post can see value in training the staff to turn it around, particularly as there do seem to be several reviews mentioning really bad service and MIA refunds.

Stayed for one night but would definitely return. Lovely room with little extras that make a big difference - fridge with complimentary milk and water, coffee machine, biscuits etc. comfortable and spacious room with plenty of sockets and storage. Bathroom included a jacuzzi bath and lovely fluffy white towels. We had both an evening meal and breakfast and were met with a warm welcome by Sam and the restaurant staff. A good choice of meals with generous portions and all delicious. Pleasant surroundings and close to Gloucester Quays. Easy check in and out. Reasonable price for the facilities- we would certainly book again. Thanks 😊

Check in was easy and friendly, our room, which was a deluxe king size, had nice furnishings and decor. The towels were really big and fluffy! The breakfast was absolutely delicious, I had the veggie option which comprised of a corn fritter, mushrooms, tomato, avocado, scrambled egg and beans and my husband had the full English which was excellent.

Needed to visit family and also wanted to make the long weekend a bit of a special break. The mooring post was fab. The room had great views. There was also doggie gift bag and dog bowls. Coffee machine and tea and coffee provided , as well as toiletries you would expect from a branded hotel. The bar/ restaurant was excellent. Simple menu but good cooked fresh and cooked to a good standard. The staff were super friendly and accommodating. Plus amazing taste in music! We loved it so much we have booked another weekend here.

Brilliant overnight stay at The Mooring Post - great location for walks near the river, very dog friendly, the room was great - everything you need + a comfy bed - 10/10! Would highly recommend this place!

Stayed Friday 19th and Saturday 20th August. We selected the Mooring Post to meet up halfway with family. Arrived around 5 o'clock to a beautiful location and was greeted by friendly staff. Our room was on the top floor and was great, lovely and clean and spacious. On the Friday night we stayed on the premises to eat as the menu was reasonably priced and had a nice selection. The food was salty but my family and I don’t cook with salt, so we notice. Half way through our meals though we couldn’t eat any more. My fries had mounds of salt piled up inside the portion which you didn’t see until you had got halfway through them. We all were overpowered and couldn’t finish our meals. I wish I’d taken a picture as I’m not sure I even believe the amount of salt even now. Breakfast which was included in the price was very nice my husband and I had full English. I did however request mine to be gluten free and it arrived with black pudding on it. Two members of the the family we met up with asked for the pancakes and they had to share one portions as they had run out. One of our group has to walk with a frame or walking stick. For most of our stay we had beer kegs stood in front of the disabled toilet and restricting movement at the bottom of the staircase. Very dangerous. The following night we decided to eat at the Toby Carvery, 3 minutes walk along the road. We got back to the Mooring Post at 5 past 9 to find it already locked up. It clearly states it shuts at 10. Breakfast the second morning was different to the first we had but still just as good. And the pancakes had not been replaced so they were not available. The ladies Amy and Katie were lovely, always smiling and made you feel really welcome if it wasn’t for them I would have given it even lest stars. As I stated first a lovely place that just could be so much better with a little care and attention.

Great value what a fab place. Our bedroom was huge with two windows opening out to garden and river. Great attention to detail lovely fluffy towels very comfy bed jacuzzi bath fan coffee machine fridge with fresh milk. Staff were exceptional and very helpful. We eat both nights and had breakfast couldn’t fault it. All in all had a lovely weekend - thank you oh and everyone welcomed our dog too - he loved it.
