Called in by chance, we were seated opposite the kitchen door and beside the bar which wouldn't have been a problem except for the foul mouthed group of men who appeared to be locals standing close by. The manager was also standing drinking with them but seemed happy to listen to their bad language. Sunday lunch was lovely and served by a nice young lad. The pub needs a good clean of upholstery etc or a refurb and a surly barmaid did not add anything positive to it. Would not return which is a shame as the food was certainly lovely.

We LOVE the Sunday dinners here. They are cooked to perfection, really generous portions and reasonably priced. The staff are very friendly and accommodating and the chef is superb, always happy to answer questions. The inn itself is lush, the fireplace makes it so cosy. We will regularly drive 40 mins for Sunday dinner here! There's a section for dogs too, so the whole family can come!

First time visit and we will certainly be back Warm welcome and shown to our reserved table Good selection of starters and mains We decided on two mains Salmon fillets and Haddock and chips Both meals were cooked to perfection with quality vegetables and home made chips Service was excellent and we enjoyed drinks from a good range of beers and lagers The interior was traditional with comfy seating A gem in the Northumberland countryside We will be back

We just called in for a quick midday snack on the way to the Simonside hills for a walk. We ordered two soups of the day and two coffees. My wifes cappucino was fine but my Americano was luke warm (I can live with that). After about 40 minutes there was no sign of the soup so we cancelled it and just paid for the coffee. The pub was not all that busy, there were three small groups eating and one group drinking. I got an appology but no reason for the delay from the person behind the bar. By the time we got something to eat elswhere it was too late to go for the walk, so it spoiled the afternoon.

Just called in on the off chance for Sunday lunch. We were accommodated, the pub was busy, and served promptly. Food arrived in no time at all. Sunday lunch was absolutely beautiful. Good portion sizes, quality food, plenty of and a variety of vegetables, nicely cooked. Meat was delicious - pork loin and sirloin beef were our choices. No room for desserts but they were probably going to be nice had we chosen them! We will definitely come again if we are in the area.

Where do I start , called in on Saturday and as I walked in I was met with a blanket of heat with two glowing open fires. Spoilt for choice for drinks as there are numerous pump beers, lagers, guiness, real ales and premium lagers. I opted for carling and it was cold and have to say beautiful. Decided on some food and opted for fish and chips. Service was swift and the size blew me away it was fantastic but struggled to finish due to quality and quantity. The chef even had a walk round asking if everything was OK. Staff were attentive and efficient , the ambience was good and open fires amazing. If you love good food in a warm cozy and friendly environment this place is a winner, I will be back to sample more.

Staff training required. Serious customer service training required. Every customer who stands at the bar should be acknowledged, so at least they know they've been seen and will be served. We were about to leave as we'd stood there for 10mins with neither member of staff making eye contact with us. It's clearly very busy on a Sunday for lunches, which I must say looked delicious. It's not unreasonable these days for customers to order and collect their own drinks from the bar, table service for drinks when it's so busy just slows everything down.

Rude manager hiding behind his bar telling me to "get out" after I complained three times about the speed or lack of it 25 minutes for a bowl of soup !! Walked away when my wife said it was unacceptable upset her and she wouldnt eat her lunch afterwards. I will be back but it wont be for food. Seriously bad service.

We arrived with friends after previously eating here and having good service and food. This time we felt massively let down, upon arrival we walked over to the bar explaining we had a large reservation to be told “you are over there in the corner” there was no offer of menus so we had to help ourselves at the bar. Drinks orders were taken by an extremely surely young lady who seemed that everything we asked for was a huge inconvenience especially when we ordered the food. The food arrived and this was the saving grace as it was excellent quality and portion size. The staff who actually served the food were lovely and friendly but the lady at the start and to a part the lad behind the bar were way off the mark. All plates were cleared away apart from one which was just left on the table. No offer of coffee or deserts at all(not even sure this was an option as wasn’t provided or explained) we eventually flagged someone down to ask for the bill and was told we would need to head to the bar to pay. No questioning if had we enjoyed the meal at all. This place could be superb but they need to get some of the staff trained in what good customer service looks like. Even our daughters commented on how rude the young lady was which says something.
