Premier Inn Hereford City Centre (Old Market)

Another great stay at this premier inn, now my go to when working in Hereford. The staff are really helpful and the food a good quality. Most importantly, I feel safe as a solo traveller. Thanks

This review is all about my experience of the new Premier Plus rooms. I’ve stayed in lots of Premier Inns (although prefer IHG and Hilton because of the points). However, I’ve never stayed in a Premier Plus room before so I was intrigued to try it. It was expensive at just shy of £200 a night without dinner. So, these rooms have obviously been designed by someone who rarely stays in hotels! (I’m at 132 nights this year, so far). The major annoyances with the regular rooms haven’t been addressed: 1. There’s still no heated towel rail 2. There’s still no electric / anti misting mirror 3. There’s still no soft closing loo seat Instead, some additional annoyances have been introduced: 1. There’s no instant coffee (one has to go and get it) 2. There’s nowhere to put a large suitcase. In regular rooms the sofa bed is perfect but in the Premier Plus room I ended up sharing the bed with it! 3. The ironing board takes up most of the space in the little wardrobe making it difficult to hang up shirts 4. The new glass shower door means one gets soaked with cold water turning on the shower, rather than the protective shower curtain in the regular rooms The changes are largely cosmetic. The arm chair and stool look great but I didn’t use it; the upscale coffee machine will be popular with many guests but I didn’t use it; the decor, linens and artwork is much nicer. The mineral water, fridge and upscale toiletries are great and the redeeming features. Would I pay extra for a Premium Plus room again? No, absolutely not. This is all against the backdrop of a wonderfully run hotel with great staff and better than average evening food. It pains me to leave an honest review of the Premier Plus rooms but ‘buyer beware’.

Stayed here to attend a VE Day dinner locally, so we didn’t fully use the facilities. Bed was comfortable enough. Matto, working on reception, could not have been more helpful. If there is a criticism, it’s that the place could do with a proper bar. What is used as the bar seems to have been an afterthought addition to the restaurant, with little seating, and staffed by reception.

Very well sited hotel for the city centre. Clean and tidy Walkable (level walk) from the railway station. Laura was very helpful in answering a few questions and sourcing an iron immediately after checking in. Nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was cooked to order on my visit and was of good quality.

1. Upon arrival at approximately 4pm we were not told that it would not be possible to have an evening meal due to there being no chef on duty. By the time that we did find out it left us very pushed for time to go to one of the nearby restaurants before we were required to be at the theatre. 2. The bar was being staffed by the sole member of staff on duty who was extremely professional, hard working and helpful but was hard-pressed to serve customers whilst also attending to check-ins and enquiries at the front desk. 3. My most serious concern that we have is regarding the fire alarm which went off at 3am. We understand that these things can happen but when guests evacuated the building no roll-call of rooms was taken by the one member of staff (DutyManager?) on duty and no instructions were given to guests. Even after the Fire Brigade arrived we still did not receive any instructions.

Lovely breakfast and nice clean and comfortable room. Parked the car right outside and had a short walk into the town centre and its facilities. Bath filled quickly, shower less full on than I would like. Good value for the two nights. Puzzled by need to request room be cleaned and towels changed. especially when towels got changed but room was otherwise untouched!
