The Whale Rock Luxury Lodge was one of the best hotels during 3 weeks of vacation in the Cape area. It comprises the reet-covered main building with reception area, office, lounge with honesty bar, library and various rooms and the separate "Villa" with additional rooms. There is two pools in a well-kept garden and breakfast is served on the pool terrace or in an adjacent annex. The garden is full of trees and plants and the bougainvillea was in full bloom when we arrived. There is even a small pond with kois. Any of the ground floor rooms has an own "patio" where you can sit and relax... Our ground floor Executive Suite (No. 1) was huge - a bright room with several windows and with beach house decor in grey, beige and white. A spacious seating corner, a king bed with firm mattress, blackout curtains, lots of built-in wardrobes with white lamella doors, an extra room with coffee maker, fridge etc. and the bathroom with two basins, bathtub, walk-in shower and toilet... Only a few steps across the meadow was the breakfast room where the lovely kitchen staff prepared a nice buffet every morning supplemented to your order by eggs any style, French toast etc. The Lodge is located on the outskirts of Hermanus close to the township of Zwelihle. Maybe not a preferential neighbourhood as it may remind you of your privileged position in society but no need to feel worried about your safety! If you want to leave your car on the lodge premises the center of Hermanus can also be reached after a 30 minute walk along the beautiful cliff path that starts just 200 m from the lodge entrance. The departure point of whale watching boat tours (in season) is practically around the corner in what is called the "New Haven". We also found two restaurants there, the rustic "Quayside Cabin" and the elegant "The Rock", both recommendable in their own way. We enjoyed our stay so much that we spent another two nights there on our way back to Cape Town...
