Welwyn Garden City

Warm and welcoming arrival from Wictoria and dinner exceptional. The house stack burger was succulent with plenty of skin on chips and onion rings. 🍔Fish and chips and spaghetti 🍝 bolognese absolutely divine made by the cheerful and accommodating chef Prisca. Breakfast equally fab by Ari! Great professional staff, an amazing stay. Can’t wait to stay again!

Stayed a few days here, nice premier inn, pity it didn’t have air conditioning. Still we knew this before we went, had a lovely fan in the room as it was quite warm. The rooms at the back are not far from the rail track, so best having a room at the front. Enjoyed our stay.

Quick check in and friendly staff. The room was clean and spacious. Great location for where we were going. Breakfast was nice. Parking was free . BUT.... The room had no air con only a thermostat which wouldn't work, the room got to 26°! Water pressure was non existent. Food service was slow, but Friday night and only 1 person in the kitchen.

Fundamentally this place it tired and with the pub alongside it that has closed… apparently on its last legs. I have a particular dislike of staff that not only request feedback but request that it is overwhelmingly positive because “the pressure is real”… Try providing good service to earn it rather than ask for it. I will be looking elsewhere in future.

We used to go to the Stanborough a lot. We'd get a big family room near a well-staffed reception, and in the morning my dad would come over for a decent breakfast in the restaurant with us and the kids. Well, not any more. Staff numbers slashed. Pub closed. Guests-only breakfasts in a tiny area made of former bedrooms. Family rooms now miles from the poorly-staffed reception. The rooms are smaller than before, on the first floor, with no aircon despite (just about) "sleeping four". Breakfasts are really poor quality, being made by one over-stretched chef and a single coffee machine. On the plus side, the spilled chocolate milkshake (I hope that’s what it was) that sat outside reception had gone by day 4, though I think its disappearence was more to do with the rain. I think I've given the Stanborough 4/5 or 5/5 in the past. That's changed.

The lovely people serving at the restaurant/bar were ace. Everyone made us feel welcome and we will definitely be coming back again. Also lovely food and drink served. Absolutely fantastic and made our slam dunk weekend experience even better!
