I've done my fair share of business trips across Africa, and I usually keep my expectations pretty low for the hotels we get booked into. This time around, made a short 1 week business trip to Juba, South Sudan and being my first time in the country, I was genuinely surprised and thoroughly impressed by the exceptional quality of the rooms, staff, and facilities at this hotel. Rooms - Very spacious layout. The bed, matress and linen quality was as expected of the 5 star hotel. And here's the best part: even though the power tripped pretty much every day (it's Juba, after all!), the generator kicked in so fast – like, 3 to 5 seconds – that your AC, lights, and Wi-Fi barely even flickered. Given how scorching hot it gets in South Sudan, having a room that stays super cold is a godsend. I actually had to toggle between "cool" and "fan" mode to keep it from getting too chilly! Bathroom - The bathroom was just as good. Big shower, awesome water pressure, and the hot water worked perfectly. They provided all the basics like shower gel, soap, shampoo, and conditioner. Just a tiny suggestion: a toothbrush would be a nice touch! I also got a chuckle out of the "Roberto Cavelli" label on the products – made me wonder if it was actually the brand or just a fancy name. Pantry - There's a nespresso machine, with 2 capsules refilled each day. They also provide bottled mineral water, nescafe sachets and tea. ut the real MVP? The kettle was sparkling clean – no weird crusty bits, which is a pet peeve of mine! Housekeeping - usually came in the afternoon. I had some lovely chats with a couple of the ladies on my floor; their English was totally fluent, so no language barriers there. And get this: anytime I called for extra towels, no matter the hour, Vankatesh, the Housekeeping Executive, would have them at my door within 5-10 minutes. Talk about speedy service! Restaurants - Since we spent most of our time at the hotel, we ate pretty much all our meals there. Peacock Restaurant - downstairs, right by reception, was fantastic. Huge shout-out to Ishwar Signel, the restaurant manager, and Cherry and Rose, who took care of us during breakfast and lunch. They were incredible – literally memorized all the guests and even our coffee preferences! And it wasn't just them; all the staff, from the egg/grill station to the waiters, were super attentive and quick to react to any request. (Oh, and that baguette? Crispy crust, super fluffy inside – seriously good!) L'ALVEARE Cafe - became my go-to spot. I'd often sit in the courtyard working for 4-5 hours. Great food options, though everything's in USD, so prices are a bit on the high side, as expected. Sunday and Nyawech were our absolute favorite waitresses – they were just wonderful throughout our stay. And there's even a resident cat, Tina, who loves to pop by and hang out while you're working. Can't wait to meet her kittens next time! The Wok (lvl 10) - on level 10 was a cool change of scenery for lunch, alt
