YOUR STAY: This lovely family cabin is a perfect getaway for those who love nature. It is a beautiful spot, surrounded by trees. Only one mile from town, even less to a wonderful brewery and several great wineries. Enjoy your coffee or glass of delicious local wine from several seating areas. Both have the sound of water for your pleasure. There is a table and chairs and a waterfall pond. There are lights strung in the tree, making this a great place to BBQ on the gas grille, or just to enjoy the evening. There is a café table and the sound of a fountain with views of Vulcan Mountain. We often see birds, wild turkeys and deer on the property. THE CABIN: Two bedroom, one bath with 1,200 square feet. Inside is a large living room with plenty of seating to enjoy a nice fire, watch Netflix, Prime or play some of the many board games on hand. The hand made coffee table has a built in checkers board. There is a dinning table for six and in the kitchen a table for four. The kitchen is fully stocked. There is a Keurig on the counter and a regular coffee maker in the cupboard. There is a four piece toaster and a small crock pot, as well as the normal pots and pans. We have a limited supply of coffee and tea for your enjoyment. The front bedroom has a King bed with comfy bedding and pillows. There are reading lights, phone charger and a ceiling fan for your convenience. The back bedroom includes a Queen and Double bed with the same comfy bedding. The bathroom has a combo tub/shower, basic toiletries included, and plush towels. The hall closet contains a variety of board and card games. Coloring books and crayons for the kids. There are even books if anyone wants to enjoy reading around the fire or outside under a tree. WHAT TO DO: There are many wonderful restaurants, wineries, breweries and cideries around Julian. In the Info Book provided in the cabin, you will find lots of info and recommendations about them. There are some really cute coffee shops as well, and please don’t forget the famous apple pie as you are wandering around town enjoying the quaint stores filled with small town treasures. The hiking is amazing around Julian. Nearby, there are the Vulcan Mountain trailhead and Santa Ysabel East Preserve trailhead. A bit further are the hikes near Cuyamaca, including Stonewall Peak, and Laguna including Desert View Trail, and Big Laguna Trailhead. Julian is also a stop for some of the PCT hikers. Gold mining and gold mining tours are available. Julian is famous for their apples. Apple Days usually start in early fall where you can pick your own or buy from bins of all varieties. In early spring there are hills covered with daffodils and a bit later the lilacs fill the air with their beautiful fragrance. Julian is also certified as a Dark Skies Community and you will see plenty of stars in the night sky.THE HISTORY: Our family has owned this cabin since 1939. Our Grandpa built it with lots of help from friends and family. It has been added on, redone and refurbished many times. It is filled with some of our family treasures for you to enjoy. The third bedroom, called Angels’ Landing, has its own outside access on the third floor and has two full beds tucked into this heavenly room. It even has its own star deck to gaze at the Milky Way.The kitchen is well stocked and spacious. There is intentionally no microwave to encourage slowing down. The Italian-made convection oven will get the job done!Both well-appointed bathrooms have lovely showers. Towels and sheets are included.The home is heated in the winter by a wood burning stove and electric fireplaces. In the summer, this well ventilated home has fans and a portable air conditioner in the main bedroom.The property is fully fenced which makes for a wonderful retreat for your dogs, too!A Sonos sound system throughout the house let’s you play your music of choice.For extra fun, we have an outdoor ping pong table, a tree swing, a hammock, a fire pit, board games and floaties for the pool.Shambala is located in the sought-after Pine Hills community in Julian. In 2023/2024, we completed a list of property improvements for this beautiful and charming house:(1) added mini-split A/C for the upstairs bedroom, living room, and dining/kitchen,(2) replaced the roof so it is now Energy Star efficient,(3) added solar panels and backup battery to reduce the property's carbon footprint,(4) repaired the aging cedar wood siding and improved installation,(5) completed a plumbing inspection and upgrades,(5) replaced three sets of balcony doors.The solar panel and backup batteries will make things easier during SDG&E's "Safety Power Shutoff." This means our guests will be more comfortable in this beautiful house (i.e., warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer.) We continue to plant hundreds of daffodils, tall bearded irises, and seeding wildflowers inside and outside the property each year.We continue to be concerned about your health and safety. Therefore, we disinfect and deep clean our property after each customer visit. You will find a supply of cleaning and disinfecting items under each sink area (i.e., kitchen, upstairs bathroom, and downstairs bathroom). Liquid hand soap is also available at each of these locations.The most often customer comment is that the property pictures do not do justice to the beauty and scale of this property. We will let you be the judge on this.This property is best suited for families with children and pets, especially when you and your family are interested in accessing Julian with modern conveniences and comfort. Please note that we are provisioning this property for 6 -persons maximum, and exceptions will require the property owner's approval. For example, a recent guest asked us to support an 18-person family party, which we declined. We do not support large parties of any kind. We have a 14-step stair connecting the upstairs and downstairs. The living room, dining room, and kitchen are all located upstairs. Alternatively, a gradual garden side walkway leads to the kitchen backdoor to access the upstairs, but this may not work for your elderly parents. In addition, this property is not wheelchair accessible.Located only 5 minutes (approximately 2 miles) from downtown Julian, Bison Lodge provides couples and families a quiet, romantic getaway. The property was completely remodeled a few years back, with the notion of opening the living spaces to allow for quiet contemplation. The Bison Lodge offers two master-suite bedrooms and a third bedroom located downstairs. These three bedrooms provide privacy and charm. Each room is uniquely decorated with a specific theme and ambiance and tastefully appointed for comfort. In addition, the separately fenced gardens are ideal for children, four-legged kids (with a dog fee), outdoor dining, bird watching, and stargazing.
