We were a group of 8 on a hiking / cycling trip over 7 days. Seven very comfortably accommodated in 5 bedrooms/ suites within the large farmhouse called Pinotage and one in a chalet named Chenin Blanc. You are immersed in the vineyards, with amazing views particularly northwards of the imposing mountain Towerkop. The hosts Phillip (2 ll’s - a joke with him!) and his wife Louisa along with other family members and staff could not have done more for us. Delicious and plentiful breakfasts ( requested in advance) delivered promptly with a smile to the farmhouse - were varied each day and set us up for our adventures. The highlight for an evening meal was a spitbraai lamb prepared skilfully by Phillip over 4 hours and served to us and our other friends who came across from elsewhere, making around 25 in total. There is a huge dining / party area on the farm where the spitbraai was served along with a second delicious evening meal for the group. Our plans changed day by day due to variations in our hiking and cycling itineraries and yet, Phillip and Louisa dealt so well with this. One lunchtime at short notice they produced a picnic lunch of note for us on the banks of their beautiful lake / dam overlooking the farm and mountains complete with gazebo, wine and beers! The setting could not have been more idyllic. The memories of Oaksrest will live with all of us and we will without doubt return soon to make some new ones. Thank you so much Phillip and Louisa.
