Cityhotel Wood

Great hotel with superb breakfast! We stayed one night with two kids. The room was very spacious (even with the additional bed). It had a big shower and a separate toilet. Only minor negative was that the window opened to the restaurant room. However, the ventilation was goot with the AC. At checkin I was offered a bag of freshly ground coffee which I prepared in the pour over in the room the next morning. The result was a great coffee - which left me wondering how this standard could be met at the breakfast. Little did I know, what awaited us downstairs. I have been to a number of very good hotels but this breakfast exceeded most of them. From a variety of seeds, homemade granola, banana bread, wortel tart (carrot cake), pancakes, overnight oats, yogurt (also vegan coconut), to all kinds of eggs, shakchuka, hummus, avocado and a lot more there was everything we desired. Also drinks were plentiful: great coffee, herbal teas, fresh juices, ginger shots… As you can see: a great hotel with even better breakfast!

I recently spent just over a week at this hotel, situated about 15 minutes' walk away from the railway station in Middelburg. The hotel is fairly new & looks quite modern, with wood featuring a lot in the decor. Most of the time, the staff were very friendly & helpful, particularly at reception. A companion & I dined at the hotel's restaurant on a couple of occasions. The menu was very limited but does change every 6 weeks. I have to say that our meals were outstanding - beautifully presented, tasty & imaginative. I didn't have breakfast, but had a look at it & it looked fantastic. My room was large & had a good shower, with separate toilet & basin area. There was also a small fridge in the room, but no tea or coffee-making facilities. If you want coffee you have to go to the library in the basement & use the coffee machine. The hot water top for tea was out of order for the duration of my stay & most mornings, when I went downstairs for an early coffee (before staff arrived at 7am), the coffee machine was switched off. This was annoying &, on a couple of occasions, it was still switched off when I went down for a second attempt. The hotel's website advertises it as being available 24 hours. Unfortunately, I found the mattress & pillows uncomfortable & came back from my holiday tired from not sleeping well at all. I was disappointed that one of the most important parts of a hotel stay - a good night's sleep - was not there.

This newish hotel in Middelburg has a perfect, quiet location just outside the mediaeval city centre. Lots of wood, of course, in a tasteful, modern atmosphere. My room was spacious, comfy and modern. The food during the day for our meeting was a mix of healthy and tasty. Dinner was superb and breakfast a huge mix of trad (cooked) and modern (yogurt, fruit, seeds, etc).

Proper hotel op een goede locatie als uitvalsbasis om Middelburg te voet te bezoeken. Vriendelijk personeel, propere ruime kamer, goede akoestiek en airco op de kamer. Het ontbijt is vrij eenvoudig maar voldoende en vers. Aan de voordeur kun je op de bootjes stappen voor een tour rond Middelburg. Een aanrader.
