The signs of disorganisation started a few days before arrival. They kept on sending me emails in Italian about a problem with payment details and threatening to release the room. This despite the fact that our bill was to be paid at the hotel and not in advance. Then came the pestering for our arrival time. Strange as the whole concept of a hotel is that you turn up whenever you like (within reason, normally up to midnight). On the day of arrival we got another request for arrival time and within thirty minutes we replied 3-4pm. We duly arrived at 3.15pm and the hotel was closed. No reply at the front gate, no reply on the phone, no reply by email, no reply by sms. So the four of us waited in 32 degrees heat for a while with sweat sticking our clothes to our bodies. Then a French couple turned up and faced the same predicament with us. In the end we decided to go eat at a local restaurant. I sent a message for the hotel to contact us when they opened. No such message came and after further repeated attempts to contact the hotel by phone I started searching for alternative hotels online. Meanwhile my wife went back to the hotel to check in person. She found the receptionist showing up around 4.30 or so. No apologies, no compensation. But eventually we were able to check in. The room was as pictured, with good air conditioning and clean. It was difficult to get the shower to the desired temperature so I ended up having to take a warmer shower than wanted. The plugs in the sink and bidet didn’t retain water, while the plug in the bath couldn’t be opened to let the water out. The toilet seat was loose and kept slipping whenever anyone used the toilet. There is traffic noise due to the location on a busy road. Beds are firm. Breakfast was ok - baked goods, yoghurts, rolls, jam, eggs, salami - but no fruit and the coffee wasn’t great. I wouldn’t go back.
