Hotel San Camilo

Once again myself and my not so little pooch GSD Winnie stayed over on our way to Bilbao for the ferry back to uk from Moraira on the Costa Blanca. Firstly it’s perfectly positioned to do the drive up in 7 hours including a couple of stops for walkies en route. You then have an hour give or take drive to Bilbao the next day which is easy and less stressful than trying to do it all in one stretch. I had the joy of a flat last year and so thankfully doing the big portion without the stress of a ferry at the end made changing a tyre in 30+ degrees heat and jacking up a ton and a half defender with dog in boot fully loaded a bit of fun and an achievement. The hotel grounds are amazing. Enclosed and perfect for doggy exercise. Lots of shade too. Must be the size of 8 football pitches, including 1 football pitch. (Please pick up after your pooch though and show the respect.) The rooms are great and en-suite with good AC. Essential in July! The restaurant is amazing. The guy who runs it is just amazing. Friendly and helpful and can do it in whatever language you like, but please try and speak Spanish out of courtesy. We all can a bit. I do even though I’m sure it gives them a great laugh. The food is just incredible and portions are substantial. I was initially a little disappointed as my fave starter of black pudding and peppers was not on, but the calamari was wonderful and huge too. My main of Iberian pork medallions served with bacon, tomatoes and chips was delightful and left me with a full belly. Only room for another cheeky vino tinto para postres. Booked up again in October for our next return trip and Winnie and I can’t wait.

Stayed here again en route to Bilbao from Costa Blanca. Breaks trip up and makes early afternoon sailings easy. Couple of hours from northern Spain ports, 2 mins off AP68, the most friendly staff, brilliant grounds for dog exercise, fabulous food and wine at amazing value. What more do you need? Will be back again!!

A good place to stay when visiting the Rioja region. A converted abbey in Navarrete , very close to the town centre and motorway access. Very pleasant rooms, with slightly dated, but well maintained furnishings. There is plenty of parking, and lovely grounds surrounding the hotel. There was no food being served in the evenings when we were there, but this may be different at other times of the year. But the staff were able to recommend a good restaurant in town, less than a ten minute walk away. Buffet breakfast was very extensive with hot and cold dishes, fresh juices and as much tea and coffee as you want. The reasonable price, is obviously the attraction of the hotel, and better than staying at a branded, bland location.

What an excellent place to stop off when driving to or from the ports of northern Spain, especially If you’ve got dogs. Easy to find just off the AP68, amazing grounds fenced safe and extensive. Restaurant more a cafeteria but attentive caring humorous service. Friendly staff and excellent value huge portions simple spanish food. Lovely local wine and nice cold beer. Rooms comfortable enough with bath and shower, air conditioning and a little fridge. Ok so rooms are a little tired and need some tlc but it’s a huge building this will be an expensive job. Dogs absolutely loved the grounds for a morning and evening run. Next time I’m staying for longer to take in some or the numerous nearby bodegas and mooch in town only 500m away.

El Hotel y su gran entorno de maravilla. Las habitaciones grandes. Fácil de llegar a 5 minutos de Logroño y con aparcamiento a la entrada del hotel. El personal muy agradable. Y el desayuno también bien. Por el precio que pagas merece la pena. En Logroño me costaba más del doble y sin desayuno.

Estuve con mi familia por la semana santa el hotel es discreto y las habitación son grandes i limpias ...tuvimos la mala suerte que llovia y habia viento entonces decidimos quedarnos en el hotel para cenar y tomar algo pero el hotel no me ofrecio ningun tipo de servicio , ni bar ni restaurante ni nada ,no pudimos cenar y ademas con una niña de un años no le pudimos calentar su cena ...tuvimos que salir lloviendo en busca de un restaurante para calentar la cena a la niña ...en ningun momento me dijeron durante la prenotacion que no podiamos disfrutar de los servicio restaurante y bar porque cerrado por la semana santa tuvimos que marchar un dia antes porque era imposible estar buscando bares para darle de comer a la niña ...
