As a seasoned mountain guide and travel manager, I've had the pleasure of staying at many lodges in the Everest region. However, the Shangri-la Guest House in Phakding stands out for its commitment to quality, comfort, and local hospitality. One of the highlights is the hotel's dedication to organic, homegrown produce. Their greenhouse provides fresh and flavorful vegetables like carrots, cabbage, potatoes, and tomatoes, which are incorporated into delicious dishes. I particularly enjoyed the Sherpa Stew, carrot and coriander soup, and the hearty dal bhat thali. For meat lovers, the chicken and buff steak, paired with homemade Tongba and Arak, is a must-try. Coffee connoisseurs will appreciate the freshly roasted and ground coffee, while those seeking refreshing beverages can indulge in the selection of fresh juices. The rooms are clean and well-maintained, offering options for shared or private bathrooms. The warm and welcoming atmosphere is a testament to the genuine hospitality of the local Sherpa family who own and operate the hotel. If you're planning a trek in the Everest region, I highly recommend the Shangri-la Guest House. It's a delightful oasis that offers a taste of authentic Himalayan hospitality and delicious, wholesome food.
