Nous avions réservé 7 nuits à Pousada Porto Jofre pour vraiment profiter du Pantanal et avoir la chance de voir les jaguars. Sur ce point, nous n'avons pas été déçu car nous en avons vu 11 en 4 jours de bateau et le guide-chauffeur était compétent. la pousada est idéalement placée, dans un cadre agréable sur les bords du fleuve, avec de nombreux oiseaux dont des toucans qui viennent tous les jours ainsi que des capibaras, des agoutis et des singes capucins. Pour cela, c'est très bien. Les buffets-repas sont aussi très corrects et le personnel serviable et disponible. MAIS Il y a une sérieuse confusion concernant la clientèle du lodge car ce sont essentiellement des groupes de pêcheurs brésiliens; du coup personne ne parle un mot d'anglais, ce qui est un peu gênant, mais surtout ces pêcheurs viennent là pour faire la fête et boire. Nous avons assisté dans la salle de restaurant à une scène hallucinante où une douzaine d'entre eux hurlaient littéralement en jouant aux cartes devant les yeux des rares touristes étrangers. De plus ils amènent leur sound system qu'ils mettent à fond. Inacceptable.... Nous avions une chambre spacieuse au début dans un bungalow vitré plutôt agréable mais dont les murs sont en carton ! donc on entend absolument tout, avec des voisins qui rigolent toute la soirée. Nous avons demandé de changer, ce qui a été pris en compte, et nous avons obtenu un autre bungalow plus loin et plus calme. Le problème est donc de savoir si cet endroit est fait pour les gens qui veulent profiter du calme et de la nature (ce qui est tout à fait possible) ou pour des fêtards qui viennent pêcher. Dommage... Nous étions allés chez les voisins il y a 5 ans (hotel porto jofre) qui est certes plus grand mais beaucoup plus calme.

Despite agreeing via email we would arrive late no one stayed awake to provide us a room and we spent our first night having to sleep on the floor of the resturant. The staff apologised and offered what they assured us multiple times would be the commencement of our package on day later (since we hadnt been given a room) an extra boat ride to see Jaguars for the inconvenience. We double checked this with them multiple times including stating the revised days of check in and check out and being assured there would be no price differences. However when our final day of boat rides came they changed their minds and said we had already used our boat rides (getting 90 minutes our first afternoon instead of a whole morning). They then tried to evict us from the room on the basis that they hadn't agreed in writing to letting us start the package a day later. In 10 years of profession wildlife tour leading and travelling globally I have never had such a bad experience. Do not stay here.

Food : good, but poor diversity. Missing bottles of water after a few days (natural and sparkling) so we had to go for 20cl portions... Room : no cleaning during a full week (we left the key but the cleaning was not done), no emptying of bins, no change of bath towels. Boat : We recommend you absolutely avoid J. Bosco as a pretended boat guide. João has no interest in wildlife and nature. He never spoted any jaguar in a full week, only listens to the radio to follow the other guides. Only wants to spare fuel to make money (he explained us so himself to justify he wouldn't wander further inside the national park like the other boats & guests!). One afternoon we had to come back earlier because fuel was missing. Also numerous stops to check the motor of the boat, which seemed not to be able to go at normal speed like the other boats so we always arrived late at jaguar sightings... João also asks guests to put the ancor in and away instead of doing it for them. So we ended up doing his job while missing nice sightings and pictures... We saw other guests from this pousada burning hard in the sun under 41°C missing drinkable water in their boat, a total shame. They were on a boat with no canopy, very basic boat...

I am extremely very, very disappointed and unpleasantly surprised. I have been to many lodges around the world, never seen or experienced such one. The rooms are extremely very ultra- mega- giga-basic, very not cozy, not neat, not welcoming - similar to prison cells; not even a picture or painting in the wall, but that’s the smallest problem. There is no room cleaning provided for the duration of your stay, which is roughly a week. There is no toilet brush for the toilet bowl… The toilet bin is therefore full of dirty and filthy toilet paper for the duration of your stay. The floor is very dusty due to the threshold-door space and dust entering from everywhere, including the bathroom. No hand towels provided. We were two people in the room - only ine bath towel per person per stay. Filthy, dirty blankets. Filthy, dirty, stained torn-out mattresses. No internet in the room. Period. Intermittent and unreliable internet in the restaurant, which looks more like a basic canteen. Very, very hot in the restaurant, impossible to enjoy your meal. Guests are sweating all over. Not content. Air conditioning is centrally switched off at 7 am and turned back in at 5 pm. There is no reception desk. This is not a lodge or ranch in the normal sense of the word. No management around in case you want to file a complaint or need management resolution of an issue. Not good value for money. Dessert, for example, finishes very early and people have to fight for it, or get their dessert before their main meal, just so they can be sure their will get their dessert.

This lodge is acceptable - but there may be betters in the area. The wifi only works in the dining area. Dinner is really late - 7:30 - when it gets dark by 6pm. It seems like just an excuse to sell alcohol because there is nothing else to do but sit and drink. Room service is not automatic. (They did it when we asked after the second night). I expect room service in a place that gives a bathroom trashcan without a lid). Lastly, I would NOT suggest their boats. None of them have canopies - and in the hot sun it is VERY necessary.
