La Roqqa

Everything one expects from a luxury hotel was delivered. The guests were outnumbered by the staff. A bottle of prosecco brut welcomed us to our room, which had a view of the harbor. There was a nice beach within walking distance, or one could take a shuttle. It had lounges and chairs with umbrellas, as well as a restaurant and bar. The roof-top restaurant had views of the harbor, and one could sit outside or inside, depending upon the weather. Breakfast was varied and delicious and included. Dinner was on the expensive side, but excellent. Parking was available. Service was top-notch.

We had the most lovely stay at La Roqqa, such a great spot for couples and families alike! Visited for the first time in 2023 as a couple and had to come back with our newborn this year. Staff were so amazing and made sure we were well looked after, Italians are so great with kids. Gave us great recommendations for things to do and places to eat. As we travelled with a baby most meals were enjoyed at the hotel, food is delicious especially enjoyed the yummy breakfast. It’s probably one of the chicest hotels I’ve stayed at, interior is fantastic with designer pieces in every corner. The rooms are clean with everything you need and the bathroom was stocked with luxurious amenities. We were offered a cot for the baby and there was plenty of space for his pram and baby things. We really enjoyed our stay and left feeling relaxed and recharged!

We stayed at La Roqqa for 3 nights in mid-September 2024. What a terrific place. We will definitely return. It’s a very classy 5 star boutique hotel. Think: modern relaxed luxury. Our main takeaway was the attention to detail. Everywhere you looked – whether at the design of the lobby; the bedroom fit-out; the little extras – it felt like a group of people had sat down and worked out how to make it as good, high quality and stylish as they could. But the overall feel is relaxed and informal. This is not a stuffy place. The staff seem mostly relatively young but very smooth and friendly. Service is slick and very efficient. When we chatted to them, many of the staff seemed to have worked in international high-end hotels around the world but have been attracted back to La Roqqa and brought their expertise and training with them. Small touches – like remembering from Day 1 (and then us never having to repeat) our still/sparkling water preference, that one of us didn’t eat cheese, or what we ordered for pre-dinner drinks – really impressed us. It’s not a big hotel but our room had a lovely view over the town and harbour. Food was really great – especially the tasting menu – but breakfast also. Again, everything we ordered was of a great quality and beautifully presented. There’s no pool but the quick shuttle to the beach club takes less than 5 minutes – and the level of service and food was continued at the beach club also. Porto Ercole itself is really nice: a relatively small harbour town that’s an easy walk from the hotel. It seems authentically local and Italian, and not spoiled by an invasion of global brands/shops. The connection with Caravaggio is interesting – and it’s surrounded by a series of forts which can be visited (although we didn’t have time – so we’ll do so on a next visit). Getting there from Rome airport was a really easy drive.

A very relaxing stay in this beautifully designed and elegant hotel. La Roqqa is an oasis of calm and tranquility made more so by the wonderful staff whose attention and service always came with a smile. The beach club, effortlessly spilling from the vantage points of the gardens and rocks down into the stunning sea, was perfect for relaxing days in the sun and sea and enjoying chilled evenings.

We loved everything about this hotel. The vibe is unique. From the minute we arrived, everyone on the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Ben, in particular, was a tremendous resource. He helped us book beach trips, a visit to La Parrina winery (highly recommend) and made reservations for us at nearby restaurants. Every recommendation was exactly what we were looking for. The breakfast that is included with the bed and breakfast plan is very good. While portions are small in comparison to US breakfasts, the menu provides a nice variety of options. The staff in the restaurant is very friendly and accommodating. Housekeeping also does a very thorough job. We did not know anyone who had previously stayed at this hotel before we booked it but I am so glad we did.

THE ROOM The rooms are very calming and understated with pastel tones. Our room had an incredible view of the marina from the balcony which was amazing to wake up to. Nice touches: - They have a drinking tap set up in the bedroom and 2 reusable LA ROQQA branded water bottles which guests can take home with them. - A WhatsApp group is created with the guest experience team rather than phones in the room. You can message or call the team 24 hours a day with any requests or questions. F&B - There is a small breakfast buffet but you are also able to order a la carte, with some lovely options. - Breakfast can be enjoyed on the rooftop or the inside restaurant (it does get a little windy outside). - The views for dining are second to none! - Dinner was served in the same place. There is an outside bar where pre dinner drinks are made and it is a beautiful setting for an aperitif. In the evening the rooftop is even more magical. - The petits fours in the evening were so fun and involved 3 little treats dotted on a map of Tuscany and relating to their region! EXTRAS - There is a shuttle service to their beach club (about a 5-minute drive). - The beach club is beautiful and has its own private beach with crystal clear water! - Guests can enjoy sun loungers on the beach or terrace with a welcome drink and fresh fruit throughout the day - very refreshing. - Would recommend the terrace area over the beach as the views from a little higher up are amazing! - There is also a beach club restaurant serving delicious fresh fish and seafood. - Just to note, the sea is a little tricky to get into and rocky but does turn to sand. STAFF The staff were so friendly and attentive and nothing was too much trouble. LOCATION The location of the hotel is beautiful as it sits up high overlooking the marina. The hotel is 5-minute walk down to the marina where there are local shops and restaurants to enjoy. The town was not crowded at all and full of locals. Really nice contrast to our stay in Rome a few days prior. We felt like we could really switch off here and in a beautiful setting too. Overall a really fantastic stay!
