La Roqqa

From check in to check out, La Roqqa was a 5 star experience. My husband and I take one big European vacation each summer and La Roqqa had the best service of any 5 star hotel we have ever stayed at. The staff were extremely attentive while at the same time very friendly and welcoming. We spent most days at the beach club which was a beautiful location with comfortable chairs and plenty of shade. The rooftop restaurant, with gorgeous views of Porto Ercole had an amazing breakfast and served great cocktails in the evening. After a 5 night stay, we left feeling rejuvenated and relaxed.

One of the worst hotel experiences we’ve ever had. I fully understand that mistakes happen – we are all human, and delays can occur. But it’s about how you handle them. Check-in was supposed to be at 3 PM, but our room still wasn’t ready. We were taken to the room, then told it wasn’t ready, and had to go back, leaving us awkwardly standing around. We were offered some water, but that was it. A proper 5-star hotel would have handled this differently, perhaps offering a small gesture or snack, but nothing was done. The rooms are also very small for the price, with hardly any storage space, and do not meet a 5-star standard. We booked a day trip for which we paid an above-average price, far higher than normal for Italy. Due to a clear mistake on the hotel’s side, we had to spend hours on the phone during our trip, which completely ruined the day. After lengthy discussions, we were told the hotel would make it up to us, but we never received an apology or any compensation. Instead, the issue was never mentioned again, and we were ignored by staff in the days that followed, which is absolutely unacceptable. For example, after the incident, when we asked for dishes and leftover food to be cleared from our room, it was simply left there overnight. This may seem like a small detail, but it reflects a lack of care and attention that is not acceptable in a hotel claiming to be 5-star. There is a complete lack of management presence. The restaurant staff seemed overwhelmed even though the hotel was not full, and the reception staff appeared unprepared to handle issues. Sadly, there is none of the warmth and hospitality you expect from Italy here. From service to food, nothing meets the standard, not even that of a 3-star hotel. This hotel markets itself as a 5-star property but does not deliver on that promise in any area. I normally love recommending hotels, but in this case, I can only strongly advise against staying. There are far better and more reasonably priced alternatives in the area that truly understand hospitality.

With Il Pellicano this is the only 5 star in town. New hotel new team the hotel has a great feeling and really positive staff. The roof terrace is wonderful as is their private beach a quick 10m hotel van ride away. Food tries a bit too hard but great none the less. Standard rooms are on the small side, bathroom has no ventilation (this is weird) and the architect needs to put 5 more places where you can hang towels etc

We had a great time at La Roqqa in Porto Ercole. Luca, Martina, Marica and the entire staff were friendly and accommodating and helped with many recommendations and bookings. Also the beach club included was amazing, relaxing and a highlight of our trip! We hope to return for longer next time we are in Italy. Grazie mille al team di La Roqqa! Jerry and Marietta

Had an amazing stay at La Roqqa Hotel in August, warm welcome by the professional staff at arrival and an overall excellent stay. Beautiful picturesque view from the hotel over the harbour. Comfortable and top renovated designer rooms. Easy access to Isolotto beach club with Shuttle from the hotel all day which was great. Breakfast and dinner at the hotel was delicious - will definitely be back to this beautiful hotel!

We stayed at La Roqqa for 3 nights in mid-September 2024. What a terrific place. We will definitely return. It’s a very classy 5 star boutique hotel. Think: modern relaxed luxury. Our main takeaway was the attention to detail. Everywhere you looked – whether at the design of the lobby; the bedroom fit-out; the little extras – it felt like a group of people had sat down and worked out how to make it as good, high quality and stylish as they could. But the overall feel is relaxed and informal. This is not a stuffy place. The staff seem mostly relatively young but very smooth and friendly. Service is slick and very efficient. When we chatted to them, many of the staff seemed to have worked in international high-end hotels around the world but have been attracted back to La Roqqa and brought their expertise and training with them. Small touches – like remembering from Day 1 (and then us never having to repeat) our still/sparkling water preference, that one of us didn’t eat cheese, or what we ordered for pre-dinner drinks – really impressed us. It’s not a big hotel but our room had a lovely view over the town and harbour. Food was really great – especially the tasting menu – but breakfast also. Again, everything we ordered was of a great quality and beautifully presented. There’s no pool but the quick shuttle to the beach club takes less than 5 minutes – and the level of service and food was continued at the beach club also. Porto Ercole itself is really nice: a relatively small harbour town that’s an easy walk from the hotel. It seems authentically local and Italian, and not spoiled by an invasion of global brands/shops. The connection with Caravaggio is interesting – and it’s surrounded by a series of forts which can be visited (although we didn’t have time – so we’ll do so on a next visit). Getting there from Rome airport was a really easy drive.
