Had a lovely lunch today. Cullen skink was really good and husband had mackerel which look delicious. Was dubious after ready negative reviews but husband was keen to try the mackerel so I'm glad we went. Wpukd have had dessert but was to full as portions were big.

Visiting the area on a golf trip Had booked the restaurant for our 2nd night and to be honest was a bit apprehensive after reading some recent reviews but 8 off us all enjoyed our meals. It’s not fine dining but everything we got was good All the staff were great particularly a young blonde haired lady with glasses who was a supervisor or manager. Would definitely go back

This little place has been in my childhood home from home for as long as I can remember. This visit however was one of the best!! Ate here just the one night but the Cullen Skink was OUTSTANDING!!!! Worth the 300 mile journey alone! It was however the evening entertainment that storm the show. From Billy keeping the songs coming on the Friday night to the wonderful Wild Thyme on Saturday who had the whole pub rocking!!! A great all round little pub ❤️

Just back from a lovely stay at the crown hotel. We always visit Portpatrick at this time of year (past 15 years or so) and first time staying here. Room although small had everything you would need and have to say the best shower we have had in any of the other hotels we have stayed in the area. Very comfy bed too. Ate there for 2 nights and meals were delicious both nights. Thank you for a great stay. And the sun made an appearance too which was a bonus See you next year 🥂🍺

Nutcracker and closed mussels equal a health hazard. Place was disgusting, , never be back. Sachets of sauce were off too. Environmental are definitely getting a call too. Chips were frozen , even though supposedly local, menu is an absolute joke.

Avoid having a meal at this place. The cod and chips at £18.95 was the worst I have ever tasted , processed fish straight from a packet .The chicken goujouns were rank and the chips were swimming in grease .There are many better options nearby be warned.

Sorry to be writing this but pretty disappointing! Wish id paid attention to the reviews. Over £18 for fish and chips. It's just heated up frozen cod and chips! For that price i was expecting freshly caught cod, not something from a box flung in a fryer! Rank!

This is a busy and cozy little bar restaurant as well as hotel, but only because competition locally is extremely limited… We came in for a late lunch and were seated in the rear next to a coffee machine, despite the added noise it was noticed that the counter which the machine rests upon hadn’t been cleaned in months. The menu pricing is bi-polar and whilst it sounds good in practice is not effected well. Our mussels were cooked in a very heavy cream sauce and that’s all you could taste, served in a small bowl without any place to discard shells nor a finger bowl / wipes. The girl at the counter suggested we empty the ‘cutlery in a basket’ to use that for the shells, of which some were not bearded and a few were closed - in other words brown bread, dead. On that subject Warburtons Multiseeded bread pre-buttered doesn’t reflect the price point, it was cut in triangles though, fancy. The scallops still had the ‘spunk sack’ attached or roe as it is properly named, served with a comedy salad garnish. The mains; a Thai Chicken with tough meat and again cream, cream, cream. The cooking style is stuck firmly in the eighties and really needs a boot up the ______ if charging what they do. The daily special pheasant was again chewy, overcooked and guess what… in a cream sauce. Fresh eyes are needed in the kitchen. It all sounded so promising but failed to deliver.

Visited yesterday. We have just bought a holiday home in the area and thought we would pop in here for lunch. We walked in and there was a waitress standing at the bar with her back to the room. I asked her if we just sit anywhere, after asking 3 times she turned around and replied "uhuu". Placed order at the bar, which you pay before you eat the food. I just wanted something plain so I ordered chicken and chips. It arrived and I realised I had ordered the wrong thing. Cheap, white, bulk made, watery coleslaw on my plate. And it was off. No one came to the table to ask if everything OK, so I pushed it aside and ate the rest. We finished and waited for ages for someone to take the plates away. The waitress we spoke to upon arrival, spent the entirely of our time here standing at the hatch with her back to the room. She eventually turned around and came to take our plates away. She never asked if we enjoyed our meal. I told her the coleslaw was off and asked her to smell it. She replied she had a cold. She whisked the plates away and never reappeared. We stood up and I told the bar man and he replied 'was it?". The opportunity was there to apologise, but he just looked at me. Obviously standards have dropped. Having staff with a cold serving food to the public and dishing up coleslaw that could potentially give you listeria, not good. We will not be back and will be telling people about our experience. I hope the hotel replies to this and I am more than happy to speak directly to the owner. I gave one star as I cannot leave a zero rating.
