The Residence Aparthotel

Essentially this is an apartment block in the same grounds as the much more glamorous Hotel Meridien. I would have rated the Residence 4*, but the reception is very small with virtually nothing on display and the staff, whilst pleasant enough, were not exactly forthcoming about what the hotel and area could offer. The vibe was more apartment block than hotel. We were on a room only basis and the room was perfectly fine, with one downside in that the "terrace" faced a rocky cliffside around 3 yards away meaning that there was no view. Both the room and bathroom were modern and well-furnished. The pool is cleverly photographed such that any advertising media it appears larger than it actually is. My wife enjoyed her swims, however, as it was very quiet. The glitzy marina, a very short walk away was ideal for strolling, drinks and evening meals, though obviously at a price reflecting the glamour.

Booked a holiday through British Airways and stayed in this hotel for a week but wouldn't go back for various reasons. the bed linen wasn't changed all week and no cleaning done, just the bed remade and fresh towels left. Our room was situated over the restaurant and was very noisy until 1am the first night, asked for a different room but was told there was none available. It is noisy all day, night and early in the morning when they are setting up. One of the main things i look for is a nice outdoor pool, this looked ok in the website photo but the photographer needs an award for the photo as it is nothing like this in reality. It is the tiniest pool i have ever seen and only has 6 sun loungers, that gives you an idea on how small it actually is, its also next to a carpark and main walk way so not ideal. This was a big disappointment for me and i would never of booked this hotel if i'd known the pool was like this. The hotel is right by the beach and is a nice beach, small stones but not too uncomfortable. You can use the hotel facilities next door (including their sun loungers on the beach) but this costs 35 euros each per day so is pricey. If you walk past the hotel and shops there is a part of beach further down where you can hire just sun loungers at 8 euros per day. The reception area of hotel is actually a small room which we found difficult to find when we arrived on the first night and just kept walking around looking for a main reception area that you would normally get. Can't fault the size of the rooms though, very big with plenty of storage and air con worked very well. Location is a little out of the way with not much to do, we took the bus into Split town several times where there is plenty to do and the main meeting point for going on trips. There is a supermarket a couple of minutes away from the hotel and a couple of eating places, Fabio's is very cheap for food and drink, nothing fancy about it and the locals use it but the pizza is good and the best cappuccino i've tasted. If dining in the evening, check your bill as we got over charged twice by exactly 6 euros by different staff, didn't happen during the day but they were quick to apologise. There are restaurants along the beach but they are quite pricey, the restaurant within the Residence is reasonably priced, only ate evening meals, not sure on the breakfast but know its 15 euros. The bus stop is outside Fabios cafe and runs every 30 mins at a cost of 2.5 euros. If you book one of the trips, go into one of the shops as they are slightly cheaper than the stands on the promenade. Highly recommend the Blue lagoon tour, was awesome and good value.

We were two families who stayed here for a week. The apartments were large and we had two bathrooms in each apartment. The hotel itself felt a bit run down even though the apartments have been renovated. In the apartments there was not enough glass and china, it felt like. The pool is very small and not at all that nice, but you can buy a day pass at the adjacent hotel and then get access to the pool and beach. The hotel staff were helpful in booking transport etc.

The hotel staff were extremely helpful and friendly, trying everything in their power to help make our holiday a memorable one. The apartment was super, clean and tastefully furnished. Our balcony was large, overlooking the sea. This accommodation is superior and was cleaned daily by friendly staff. I strongly recommend this hotel/apartment but recommend that you hire a car because it’s a little off the track. The sea/beach is very near, the clean sea and beach was lovely. Small pebbles, you need swimming shoes to get in the water.

I’m just home from a great holiday in Split/Podstrana. I must admit I was a little sceptical about this hotel as there were no recent reviews however as soon as we arrived I was put at ease! Our room was very spacious and modern. In the online images the pool looks rather small however it was perfect for us and although there was only 6 sun loungers we never had an issue at getting a bed (group of 3). You can pay to use the next door hotel facilities however it’s around £30 a day. The beach is a 2 min walk from the hotel but it is pebbles so bring water shoes. We dined in Podstana twice on the beach along to the left and one of our favourite restaurants of the holiday was located there (Kuzina). Our room was cleaned daily which was fab - they provide you with clean towels if you need them. We had breakfast included which consisted of a small buffet (hot and cold) every morning running from 7am-10am which was ideal and it had plenty of choice. We used the local bus which runs every 30mins from a bus stop only a 2 min walk from the hotel (number 60) or Ubers which were much cheaper than taxis every day to get in and out of Split which were both so simple to use. Worked out around £1.40 for a single to Split on the bus and they run until 12.30am. Would definitely return a great holiday and location!
