Physically nice enough, small hostel, comfy beds, very bad wi-fi. This is a place preferred by older people. Some private rooms and some small dorms with en suite. While I was there they had temp volunteers, some being 'career volunteers'. Owner's son was helpful. I wanted a girl's dorm & to do that I was put in with volunteers. 2 fulltime women there were nice and behaved as staff should behave with guests. I wanted a hassle free stay, a friendly hello or at least a basic acknowledgment, and to quietly get on with my own quiet things - because this was a boring place. A bit of an old vibe. Comfortable but dull. Annoying wi-fi. Each new volunteer needs instruction on how to behave with guests. It is not ok to decide they don't like you - and show it. Nor ok to behave like a schoolmarm telling you how to think. The man on Reception was rude. There were 4 long staying miseries at different times during my stay. Friendly for guests but not nice in the dorm. Sullen, one aggressive, a rude one, and one making personal comments about me. Owners son was friendly and nice, 2 f/t females were good/ok. Management absolutely needs to pay attention to how they handle and discuss issues that arise with guests. Reception is also where the TV sitting & dining areas are. I found every other guest there knew I had been discussed and thereafter the guests who had been friendly were not friendly. It was very uncomfortable. Management NEEDS to be aware this happens & stop really awful things being said IN FRONT OF other guests. Even for bad guests, nothing about a guest should be discussed so obviously in front of other guests. An example of what I had to deal with - volunteer, Mexican female, on arrival, scowling face, extremely bossy, obviously ordered other volunteers around & was complaining that her locker was not clean as if it was my duty to have cleaned it. Then said I was to clean the room and en suite. I did not answer her. She also had a pet guinea pig which was to be kept in the locker. I was told that. She was furious, absolutely livid that I was not 'obeying' her and said all this at the Reception, after which other guests who had been friendly before, behaved differently to me, went quiet when I went thru the Reception area and so on. This guest place. should tell its volunteers how to behave with guests!
