Hyatt Place Rapid City / Downtown

Brand new hotel but needed better planning with housekeeping and staff. Seemed a little unprepared in their first month. Once fixed, they will shine!

Wonderful hotel! I nearly missed this hotel in my search because it’s brand new and doesn’t have many reviews yet. This hotel is great, the location is as central as you can get and everything is sparkling clean. Staff were friendly and helpful. If I go back to Rapid City I would absolutely stay here again.

The hotel is in a great, central location. You can easily walk to restaurants and coffee shops and the area seems safe. Rooms are clean and the lobby is beautiful! Beds were comfortable and towels were fluffy. Would definitely stay here again.

Room was as expected. Rates were great. Unfortunately I was charged when I booked on line through priceline, u arrived at the hotel and was charged again in person. No resolution was ever offered. Lost out on money, loved the new vibe just not being charged twice. Will go back to double tree from now on.

We stayed at the Hyatt Place in downtown Rapid City for two nights in late May 2025 and had an enjoyable experience. The hotel is clean, modern, and thoughtfully designed. The staff were attentive, the breakfast was delicious, and the location made it easy to walk to nearby restaurants. We learned the hotel had only been open for about a month. As Hyatt Explorist members, we were assigned a room on the 4th floor—which made us smile, considering the building has 11 floors. Later, we noticed that only the first four floors were accessible via the guest elevators, so it’s unclear if the upper floors are part of the hotel at all. Our room featured two double (?) beds, a sectional sofa with a coffee table, a large TV, nightstands equipped with USB-A and USB-C ports, and plenty of drawer space for a short stay. There was also a built-in desk and chair, a full-length mirror, a ¾-height coat closet, a safe, mini fridge, and a coffee maker. The bathroom was spacious with a glass shower, and we really appreciated the multiple wooden hooks throughout the room—especially helpful for hanging towels after showers. As someone who uses multiple towels, I often find hotels lacking in hooks, so this thoughtful detail really stood out. The room also had a connecting door, though it seemed unoccupied as we heard no noise. While the view overlooked the back of the building and wasn’t scenic, the room itself was quiet and comfortable. The housekeeping was just ok - we noticed that they didn’t touch the beds (though we did make up the beds on our own), but did change our towels and picked up our trash. The front desk staff were incredibly friendly and went out of their way to make sure we had a great stay. Our check-in was handled by a woman named Precious, who was genuinely warm and welcoming. We had some special billing requests, which were handled thanks to both Precious and Erik, the General Manager. Breakfast exceeded our expectations, especially for a Hyatt Place. We used one award night and one paid night, and in both cases, the breakfast was complimentary. There was a wide range of hot and cold options, including french toast, scrambled and hard-boiled eggs, bacon or sausage (depending on the day), mini quiche, bagels, breads, cereal, fresh fruit, and a well-stocked oatmeal bar. Juice and coffee were available, though the regular coffee station was empty both mornings when we arrived (later refilled after eating half our meal) —hopefully, they’ll consider adding another machine to help with the morning rush. The seating area was more than adequate. There's also a bar area called The Placery where food and drinks are available, though we didn’t get a chance to try it. The hotel features a parking garage with in/out privileges for $15 per day, accessible via a separate elevator behind the bar area. This hotel is new, I switched to this hotel after one night at the Hampton inn which I suggest you avoid at all costs. I booked the room with breakfast included. Breakfast was ok. They had fresh fruit which was nice, otherwise just your typical continental breakfast. Housekeeping at this hotel is terrible. We asked for housekeeping and all they did was come in take out the trash and leave new towels. Beds were not made. Dirty towels were left on the floor, bathroom and rest of room was not cleaned. This happened even after we asked for a full service cleaning of the room after being there for 5 days and having experienced the sad excuse for housekeeping - the first time we requested it. Location is good - downtown rapid city.
