We stayed here for 3 nights and we wish it was for longer. Our room (#4) had breathtaking lake views from both our sitting room and the bedroom. The staff could not have done anymore for us from recommending things to do, to Mel finding us a DVD to watch the first Lord Of The Rings as we were off to the Hobbiton tour, well worth doing, to Nicky giving us food to go feed the donkeys and sheep they have onsite. (Kids would love this, we did as adults). We had dinner at the restaurant and the lamb was slightly chewy, but the seared tuna was amazing and the breakfasts were the best. We gave the gold star to the chef for our poached eggs, as they were the best we had on our NZ holiday. I had to unexpectedly print a document off and scan it and the girls in the office couldn’t have been more helpful, thank you Sam and cheers to Helen who does a wonderful job in the garden, the grounds are beautiful. The entire place has a wonderful vibe and we enjoyed sitting by the fire enjoying our time here. The staff are like a little family with Nicky bringing her own coffee machine from home to cover their one being serviced. This speaks volumes of the culture and spills over into the service we received. I also mentioned the bed pillows were a bit soft, and housekeeping left firmer ones after cleaning our room, just lovely and we loved our stay - thank you.

We have stayed and dined at on the point previously and enjoy dining out at a variety of restaurants regularly. However, our recent dinner was world class. There were five dining and we all found our three course meals were exceptional and would be difficult to match anywhere else. The quality of ingredients, presentation, portion size and of course the actual taste of the food could not be faulted. (I should know having sampled everyone else’s along with my own) The prawn and scallop entree was delicious, the steak perfectly cooked, the chips best yet and the salmon skin - I would be happy with an entire plate of it. I strongly recommend taking the time to dine here, not just for the amazing food but the spectacular location also.

The service at this hotel was some of the worst I have ever encountered on any international trip I have ever taken. After a last-minute change of plans, the staff informed us that would not be serving us dinner because the waitstaff had three tables and the cook did not want to be delayed that night. They could not see fit to even offer us a piece of cheese, a cracker, or a glass of wine. I waited in the room for someone to come up and apologize and offer us something to eat, but that never happened. We spent the evening in our room that was uncomfortably warm. There must've been 100 or more flying insects in the room that it took us over 30 minutes to exterminate ourselves. We thought maybe the next morning someone would come and apologize to us, but that never happened either. I can't recommend strongly enough against staying at this hotel that advertises itself as a luxury hotel, but treats its guests like they are trash.
