My wife and I stayed at the Franziska for a recent 5 night short ski break in Jan. We had unbroken blue skies which made for a fabulous early ski break. The area is well connected and plenty of ski options, likewise bars and restaurants. The newly refurbished pension was an absolute delight. The owners Evy and Ludwig were super helpful and friendly and have obviously poured their hearts into it. Each room is very stylish and comfortable with an eco focus. We found the Austrian bed and duvets very comfortable, the room has remote blackout blinds, a small balcony, hairdryer but no tea and coffee facilities. There’s a lovely small sauna area that looks on the back forest of the property, on the lower level is the boot room with individually secured lockers that take two sets of skis, boots and gloves, these dry the kit each night whilst keeping it secure. I must say that we felt the walk into the village with ski stuff was just a tad too far, so as we had a hire car we would drive to the Shattberg car parking lot (which is free all day for those with a ski pass), this made access of slopes much easier and less hassle. Breakfast each day was a treat with small specials available on top of the lovely buffet options. Likewise evening bar area with the lovely fireplace and good choice of drinks. This isn’t a hotel, but a lovely pension with a conscience. We’d definitely love to return.
