Termales Santa Rosa De Cabal

The restaurant service is the only minus!! We agree with the bad comments the restaurant has received for the last years. The legacy of Don Miguel Arbeláez Arbeláez is not being taken cared of. Sad because the Hotel is beautiful and the scenery is magical!

We visited Termales Santa Rosa de Cabal Hotel for one night on a road trip from Medellin. Getting to the hotel is straight forward. When you arrive in Santa Rosa de Cabal, stop at the supermarket for any necessities. Leaving town you will go down a paved road that goes to gravel after a couple of miles. It arrives at the main termales which is for day visits. The hotel is at the end of the road with secured access. They only allow visitors that have made reservations. It has its own secure and paved parking. 24/7 there are employees and maintenance abound. Upon arrival and parking they will assist with your baggage. Checkin is like any hotel, in the common area with the restaurant on the same floor. When we checked in, it was easy and they just asked for original identification (passport and national ID card, as well as the keys for the vehicle to identify the license plate-of course they give them back). Our room was a waterfall junior suite. It is up a couple of steps behind registration with only two rooms on the hall, very private. The bathroom is very good and nice and the room is extremely comfortable with a couch and many windows and a lot of space. I cannot stress how comfortable the bed its. It feels like home an is very private. The view is of the side of the mountain and parking lot. It is very quiet. If you are looking for a view of the hot pools, then seek the second floor older rooms in the rear of the property. It was spotless. They give you one towel per person. You exchange the towel as many times as you want on the second floor up from reception in the rear on the way to the main three pools. The hotel has a bar and food outside as well by the large pool. Drinks are strong and worth the price. For the food, there have been some bad comments. We did not have one bad meal the entire time we were there. There is one detached building across the car park that has rooms and its own pool if you want more privacy. We used that pool the last day and there were very few people. When you check out, you pay the incidentals by credit card or pesos. When leaving the guard communicates with reception to clear your exit like entry. The gate opens inwards manually so don't park to close. Keep your wrist band on as it gives you access to the public area with the views you may have seen online for photos. It is a nice walk uphill, so if you are mobility challenged, do not try it. One thing from before the visit is the number of questions I had about the hotel and its proximity to the termales you see online. The hotel complex is distinct and removed from the public ones by approximately 1/4 mile, with no connection. The hotel is distinct in itself and provides and a great retreat with good amenities for you to enjoy and relax. Neither of us had any complaints and we really enjoyed our time! I do not normally write reviews but this is an exceptional case. If not for the room and and the hot pools this would have rated lower. I will start with the good. The room was large and clean and the beds were comfortable. The bathroom was also large and well appointed. The Thermal pools were very good as well. Unfortunately that is where the good news stops. Our adventure started downhill when my wife and I booked a couples massage and we were in an area together but the masseuse kept sniffling and coughing. Neither of us knew what to do as we were lying on an uncomfortable table receiving a lacklustre massage from an attendant who was obviously very sick and she was not wearing a mask. We had booked a 3 hour treatment for the next day which we promptly cancelled with the front desk. When I explained the situation I was told to take it up with the spa desk. I did not as I was already concerned about getting sick I was not going back in that part of the facility. I reached out to the online chat system and was told that I should talk to someone else as they could not help me. The food is some of the worst we have experienced in Colombia. It would almost always arrive cold. We signed up for the “American Plan” and that was another mistake. It clearly states on the menu that anything with an asterisk is not included in the American plan which makes sense but when it came time to order each time we tried to order a smoothie, coffee, water and basically any kind of liquid it was not included. I showed the front desk that there were no asterisks on the menu and they just said not included. Our choice was two types of juice that were not even on the menu. This was a very disappointing stay!!

The hot springs are amazing but try and find somewhere else to stay. This hotel is poor value and although all the staff we encountered were lovely and helpful, it is clearly not well run. Check in was late and there was no apology, we just had to sit and wait with not even an offer of a drink of water. There is no trust between the hotel & its guests so we were escorted to the room to sign an audit of the mini bar 😂 Our AC unit leaked badly on the first night and we were told that there were no other rooms and there was no engineer because it was a Sunday. We were told someone would fix it on Monday and we were left with a bucket and towel. Then on Monday they cleaned the room (thus removing the bucket and towel) but didn’t fix it so it leaked everywhere again. They then offered a new room at 8.20pm which we declined as we were leaving the next day. (They did then take some drinks off the bill to the value of about £20, which we accepted). The room was also sparse with nowhere to sit (annoying when you’re wet from the springs, and one of you is in the shower)… Also there’s no privacy between the toilet and the bed just this noisy, juddering, sliding screen with a big gap at the top. The food is bad which we’d anticipated but then they ran out of white wine (for the three days we were there) so we couldn’t even wash it down! Spa is excellent and great value and as said at the beginning, all the staff from reception to the restaurant, spa, bar and cleaners were all really lovely and helpful. Also as others have said it’s really poor value for Colombia which makes the issues even more frustrating.

All what is written in reviews about service and food is true. Sometimes it even changes into a slapstick when you observe numerous waiters and waitresses meticilously avoid a piece of pineapple fallen on the floor. They know it's there, everbody sees it. They pass it with a silent look on their face that expresses "sh*t it's still there". But it's not their job to pick it up. During our stay workers were heavily drling homes in concrete blocks above the left waterfall of the main thermal hotel pool wich gave dust and a hellish noice Only when they stopped use of the pool was bearable. I asked how long this would go on. The hotel guy asked " Why, is it bothering you?" It turned out to be a project that would take several months more. After 4 am they stop, before that time you better visit the pools for day visitors down the road. We had room 212 Special warning if you're not an easy sleeper: don't accep this room right beside the kitchen and pesronnel relax and dining facities. They work there all night, during breaks you'll hear their loud voices and right opposit the room is the elevator which is used to transport ready stuff to another part of the hotel. With a loudly rambling food cart. Luckily the next day we were allowed to move to a room away from this horrible spot.

Beautiful, very relaxing place during the night, unfortunately during the day it’s very noisy due to the music in the Bar, it’s a paradise just listening the waterfalls and very relaxing bit the hotel apparently doesn’t understand that these place is only for relaxing, I was there trying to get silence and get connection with the nature I didn’t come to pool parties
