Top quality service, we got the room with the view of the waterfall! Meals are so impeccably prepared (and yummy) and it is at this property we tried our first (and we like it) natto for breakfast (came in a bamboo wrap). The onsen view is superb! We wanted to stay at another property but it was sold out. It is certainly a blessing that we got to stay there. I would go back again

We were lucky to find a room available one week before our trip. Transportation is convenient from train station. Ryokan staff are very nice and helpful. They provided towel for us to visit other onsen and borrow us snow boots. Having experienced other onsens in the area, I think Taenoyu is the best. Food is good. We definitely would like to stay here again.

We travelled for the day from Kakunodate to enjoy the hot springs in Nyuto, and selected this ryokan. As we understand it, many of the ryokans in this area open their onsens to day visitors, and so we went! We took a bus that dropped us off right outside this ryokan, which is located by a waterfall (!). The staff are very friendly and helped us buy the entry ticket, and rent a towel (you can bring your own). The entry to the hot baths are gender-based. Inside, there are two pools for women only (same for men), and then there are two mixed pools. I had to overtake my western bashfulness to use the mixed one, and it was worth it! The two mixed pools are outdoors by the waterfall: incredible setting. If you go only for the day, please note that the onsens are open to the general public only for few hours (e.g, 10:30 am to 2:30pm).
