"If you like quirky places with a personality I’d recommend this place. Nice big garden with tables and chairs, an old school bar area and yummy breakfast in a beautifully laid out dining room. Even tho the communal areas are a little dated (which I love!) the actual bedrooms are modern, bright and clean. Allison checked us in and as soon as we met her she made us feel so welcome. She went above and beyond for us, we will 100% be back just to see her! What a fantastic lady!!"

"You might have an idea of what to expect from a hotel stay: to be greeted at the front desk, to have a bar and a breakfast service on the premises, to stay in a room which is serviced with fresh towels and clean linen... There's none of that here. We stayed for a week and some days saw no staff (there's a webcam in reception). There were tea and coffee making facilities in our room when we arrived but this was never replenished, the towels were never changed, the bed was never changed; the curtain was hanging off the rail; the bar downstairs was never opened. The website claims that breakfast can be booked for £10 per person but good luck finding anyone to book it with. There are a number of very pleasant hotels along Queens Road but sadly this isn't one of them."

"J'ai passé 5 jours dans l'Île de Wight, en Grande-Bretagne, à Shanklin dans l'hôtel Clifton. Tout était parfait, la maison est très belle et entourée d'un très beau paysage de bord de mer Les chambres sont confortables et spacieuses. Le petit déjeuner est excellent et copieux Le Boss et le personnel sont très serviables et aimables, et le service très efficace. Tout est parfait. J'ai gardé un excellent souvenir de mon séjour à l'hôtel Clifton. I spent 5 days on the Isle of Wight, in Great Britain, in Shanklin at the Clifton hotel. Everything was perfect, the house is very beautiful and the landscape around also. The rooms are comfortable and spacious. The breakfast is excellent and plentiful The boss and the staff are very helpful and friendly, and the service is very efficient. Everything is perfect. I will keep good memories of my stay at the Clifton hotel. Paule PERSON"

"This is more like a 1* hostel than a hotel, Everything was terrible, we only stayed 2 of the 5 nights as was do bad. Room 1 - small double, was more like a prison cell, bedroom door was damaged, bathroom door only opened about 5 inches as bed blocked this, we struggled to get in and out without bashed yourself on the door. Once in the bathroom, if you sat on the loo, your face was in the sink. You couldn’t bend over to wash your face because there was no room between the door and the sink just ridiculous. Dirty and falling apart. Room 2- small double, again more like a cell, the smell of damp was overwhelming, after two days you could smell it on clothes, they need rewashing. There were people outside the window smoking on and off throughout the day and evening, Generally it felt very unsafe, dirty and un kept."

"Heavy delusion This hotel can boast an excellent location, in front of the beautiful English Channel sea, with the beach just across the street. It has a lovely patio with tables, where to rest and have food and drinks. The service is quite basic and informal: bare tables, no table cloths, self serving with cutlery, plastic glasses. Food is average, but enjoyable. The staff is very young, some of them kind and helpful, some others nearly bothered by the inconvenience And now, down to the substantial issues: the place is an absolute pigsty. We had two standard rooms, a double and a twin, very compact and basic, with not even a table and a chair. My room overstending the kitchen, with complementary smells and noises, my friend’s overlooking the wall of the mountain above head, which made the room as dark as being in a cave. The rooms are extremely run-down and poorly maintained. The furniture and décor are outdated, and it is evident that little or no maintenance have been carried out for many years. The walls and ceiling are as this as paper, so that you hear every noise from above and nearby rooms Yet, what was very upsetting (and disgusting) was the unacceptable state of cleanliness of both rooms and of the entire hotel. A noticeable build-up of dirt and grime everywhere, it is evident that the place, and the rooms, haven’t been deep-cleaned in years. The first day, the housekeeping was not performed, so I asked whether it was included in the rate. They told me that for reason of hygiene, they don’t do housekeeping after the check in, unless required by the guest. Although I don’t understand this reason, as a matter of fact, no one informed us about this rule at the check in. However, on the third day the housekeeping was provided, on my request. Which means that the staff put new towels, emptied the bins, put clean cups, but didn’t remove the used towels and shower mat (they were left on the bathroom floor as they were), they didn’t even remake the bed and apparently didn’t made up the room properly. Last but not least, that same evening of the third and our last day, no hot water came from either the shower or the tap. We informed the staff the following morning, but they didn’t bat an eyelid. I would have expected at least a little reduction of the rate, given the discomfort caused by that inconvenience . Overall a very negative experience. I definitely suggest avoiding this hotel. It is absolutely overpriced for the level of comfort and maintenance provided. There are many better places. It’s preferable to spend a little more and have a cosy place, than this dump."

"Can highly recommend this bed and breakfast. Christine is a lovely host, friendly and helpful. The room and en-suite was nicely furnished, very clean. Tea and coffee making facilities with a small fridge and on arrival 2 pieces of homemade cake, a lovely touch. The breakfast choice was extensive and all beautifully cooked and presented. The homemade bread was a bonus ! Well situated for short walk to beach or town. Highly recommend. Thank you Ian and Shelagh"

"L'appartement était très propre et spacieux, et le propriétaire Chris était très utile et très confortable. La piscine est la Cherry sur le gâteau, il est magnifique!! Excellent emplacement au sommet de Shanklin Chine, donc 60 pistes à la plage de Shanklin (petite charge). Nous pouvons également recommander le Steamer Inn sur le front de la mer Shanklin, pour des repas délicieux et un personnel amiable."

"We were so pleased with our stay at this hotel, for several reasons, it was spotlessly clean, comfortable especially the bed and in a great location in between the town which has some nice restaurants and the beach lift which takes you down to a nice beach and a few more restaurants and cafes, also near a theater with some decent acts appearing. Vicky and Paul were such lovely hosts, very friendly and helpful without being intrusive. The outdoor pool came in handy as the weather was good and the pool temperature was perfect. There is onsite parking at the front and back of the hotel. So, all in all from us it was a 10/10."

"Stayed for 1 night as I was working in the area. Linda and Des were wonderful attentive hosts. The hotel has a real family feel which makes sense being family operated. The room was spacious with a really comfy bed with lots of pillows. Really liked that they have plates and cutlery if you want to order a takeaway. Breakfast was good quality and freshly cooked. They even thought I left something behind in the infra red sauna and took it to where I was working on the island. It actually wasn't mine but the sentiment shows the kind of service Linda and Des offer. I'll stay here again when I'm next working in the area."

"This was a 2-night stay for work. Good communication with John before arrival. Provided with a paid parking ticket for the railway station car park (less than 5 minute walk) on arrival. I had a room 3 facing the garden, great room, comfortable bed, good ensuite, good TV and WiFi. Breakfast is included in the price, but due to my work commitments I had to leave before the timed start of breakfast of 8:15am. I was provided with Bacon sandwich and bottle of water for me leaving each morning at 7:30am - this is great customer service! Places to eat and take away within walking distance. Allowed to use the dining room if bringing food back - which was way nicer than eating in the bedroom."
